A wild elephant attack in the Kaeng Hang Maew area on October 10, has injured one individual and resulted in the death of another during a rubber tapping incident.

At approximately 06:40, officials from the Khao Si Fif Chan National Park received an urgent report from Mr. Anupong Sukwiset, the district chief of Kaeng Hang Maew, regarding an attack involving the wild elephant, which occurred near the villages of Nong Samet, Moo 12, and Nong Tien, Moo 6, in the Khun Chong sub-district.

Upon investigation, the authorities confirmed the identities of the victims. The deceased was identified as Mr. Theparot, 47, a resident of the Khun Chong area, and the injured individual was Mr. Phuwai, 65, both were rubber tapping at the time of the incident.

The Sawang Katanyu Foundation promptly transported both the injured and deceased individuals to Kaeng Hang Maew Hospital for emergency treatment and to assist the family with arrangements for the deceased.

Prior to the attack, officials had been working to relocate the elephant from the area. The animal was reportedly fleeing when it encountered Mr. Theparot, leading to the fatal encounter, then after injuring Mr. Phuwai in the vicinity of Moo 6, the elephant ran off from the area.

In response to the incident, park officials have mobilised a team to track the elephant and are working to inform local residents about safety measures to prevent further incidents and loss of life.

Lack of communication?

God knows the weight of this elephant and the 2 victims were unfortunate just doing there job in saying that I can not imagine under any circumstances volunteer to get a " massage " from one at the likes of nong nooch village

The elephant was being re-located according to the report. I wonder how that was being done.
