A 93-year-old woman with dementia has gone missing after crawling into the Sakae Krang River while her daughter, who had briefly fallen asleep, was unaware. Search efforts are ongoing, but strong currents have hindered recovery attempts.

 

At 16:00 on October 10, Uthai Thani Governor Teerapat Katchamat, along with Provincial Police Chief Pol. Maj. Gen. Narongdej Saksomboon, local authorities, and rescue teams, arrived at a residence in Ban Nam Tok, Sakae Krang subdistrict, Uthai Thani, where the incident occurred. Ms. Pao (surname withheld), 63, the missing woman’s daughter, reported that her mother, Ms. Chanaporn (surname withheld), had gone missing at around 12:30. CCTV footage captured the elderly woman crawling out of the house shortly after Ms. Pao had fallen asleep.

 

 

Ms. Pao explained that her mother had been suffering from severe memory loss and, in the past, had expressed a desire to die. “She often said she didn’t want to live anymore,” Ms. Pao shared. She added that despite her mother’s inability to walk, she would crawl if she wanted to go somewhere. Ms. Pao admitted that she had fallen asleep for about 10 minutes, and when she woke, she found her mother missing and feared that she had crawled into the river, which is just 10 metres from their home.

 

Rescue divers from the Uthai Thani Provincial Administration Organisation and the Uthai Thani Rescue Foundation have been searching the river but have so far been unable to locate the elderly woman.

 

Authorities have also searched around the home in case Ms. Chanaporn had crawled elsewhere, but CCTV footage showed only her exit from the house. Due to the camera’s limited range, it is unclear if she reached the river, though authorities believe she likely did.

 

Neighbours confirmed that despite her inability to walk, Ms. Chanaporn was able to crawl quickly and likely made her way into the river. The Sakae Krang River is currently experiencing high water levels and strong currents, leading the search teams to believe that her body may wash some way downstream.

Sad, but I have sympathy for the old lady.

93 with dementia, unable to walk. Hopefully at least, she has now found peace.

93-Year-Old Woman Found Drowned 1 Kilometre from Her Home

 

 

The body of a 93-year-old woman, suffering from dementia, was discovered in the Sakae Krang River, approximately 1 kilometre from her home. The woman, identified as Nang Pao, a resident of Nam Tok village, Sakae Krang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Uthai Thani Province, had gone missing earlier.

 

On October 11, police received a call reporting the discovery of Nang Pao’s body. Rescue workers were dispatched to retrieve the body from the river. It was found floating face down by Mr. Thawin, a 57-year-old villager who was assisting in the search. Mr. Thawin had set out in a boat from his own dock when he spotted the body and notified the authorities.

 

After being retrieved, the body was taken to Wat Uposatharam Temple for an autopsy, which confirmed that the cause of death was drowning. It is believed that she had been in the water for more than 16 hours before her body was discovered. The family has been notified, and her remains will be returned to them for funeral rites according to local customs, amidst the deep sorrow of her relatives and neighbors.

 

Before her death, Nang Pao had expressed feelings of wanting to die and exhibited a habit of wandering towards water. Her daughter frequently had to rescue her, and neighbours had also stepped in to help, as Nang Pao’s age had caused her to become increasingly forgetful.
