Slightly off topic, but has anyone else noticed that the Thai news are not saying Thaksin is a de facto prime minister any more, they have changed His title to Father of the prime minister.......I wonder why......

Yes, noticed it as well as the article saying Thaksin said this and Thaksin wants that and Thaksin proposed this as well as many other inferences showing Thaksin, not his daughter is in control of the government.

Is the4re not buses and trains that can go to Singapore for those who want to go to a legal casino?

i was there for 3 days, and though it rained some of the time, there were many indoor places to

enjoy my stay, including a casino.

Well, the illegal gambling in Thailand keeps many, many pockets nicely lined. The legal gambling crowd goes "overseas" to Cambodia and Laos. If you legalize the business, another hole of corruption is being blocked and the local industry would flourish as well as the state's coffers in Bangkok for the tax revenue they would accrue.

Your call .........

Thailand is not even able to organize its state lottery with uniform ticket prices. On the other hand, the serious and responsible operation of a casino under state control is much more complex. I doubt that the profits of a state casino will really benefit the general public. There will be only a few VIPs who like to fill their own pockets.

Yeah, there's an excellent chance they'll get Ocean's 11'ed within a year.

Good luck

Casinos are for losers.

Casinos are mostly used by people who can afford to lose but fall into the same trap as all gamblers. There is only one winner and that is always those who organize it and own the venues it takes place.

We All know where Thaksin will be is in this.

There also a legal casino in Malaysia.

And the casinos in Poipet are legal too

So Thailand is just catching up with its neighbours

An interesting topic, especially considering the impact of such projects on tourism and the economy. Legalization of casinos is always a controversial issue, because it affects both positive aspects in the form of income and attracting tourists, and risks associated with social stability and debt burden on the population.
