BTW:It is a very nice new look when u make ur hair with hair products that enables u to have wet-look hair :o

I'm surprised I've never heard this one. I used to be told so many similar things by my ex boyfriend and then asked around to make sure that I wouldn't fall in that trap of thinking that people here think alike and believe the same things. It was the right thing to do. A lot of people smiled and told me 'tham sabai, don't worry, you believe what is good for you'. He also told me for example that if I interfere with an animal in the middle of the night I will get cursed because animals possess evil spirits during the night. I bursted into a laugh but that was quite insensitive of me as he got very angry.

I was also told that sweeping the floor in the evening is considered bad luck. After asking more and more people I understood that in the past Thailand used to be less lit even in towns, therefore it would have been difficult to spot the dirt on the floor..

I've decided to take all these things with a pinch of salt 'cause not everyone thinks in the same way, even if the general trend might push us to see the opposite sometimes.

What I know about the hair is that going out with a hair treatment is not considered polite and it's probably the same for simply wet hair. That's all.

I guess that when in Rome we should do as the Romans do.. but it's wise of you to ask around.

My boyfriend told me the other day that if a Thai woman goes out with wet hair, everyone will think she just had sex, and that's why Thai women always dry their hair before they go out. Have you heard of this and is it true? He reckoned it doesn't count for Westerners but I thought it was very strange. I'm always going out with wet hair, do my neighbours think that's why I'm smiling? :o

Across the board it's completly natural for Thai people to 'Ab Naam' or wash after sex. We do! This friend of mine, an English girl married to a Thai didn't know this until I enlightened her and she said that all these years she thought he hated her because he dashed for a shower straight after sex lol !!!!!!!!

At least he didn't just roll over and start snoring.

quotes:

- There are certain practices which have been recommended to us by the Prophet within the context of cleanliness. They are termed practices of healthy human nature. One of these is the removal of pubic hair and armpit hair. Intervals of 40 days are also recommended as the proper frequency for this practice. It applies to both men and women. There is no specific instruction about the method of removing this hair. It is perfectly proper to use any method as long as it is safe.

-Sahih Bukhari:Volume 7, Book 62, Number 173: Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: ?The Prophet said, "If you enter (your town) at night (after coming from a journey), do not enter upon your family till the woman whose husband was absent (from the house) shaves her pubic hair and the woman with unkempt hair, combs her hair"...

-Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Shaving the pubic hair is a confirmed Sunnah. Al-Bukhari and Muslim reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: Five are among the Fitra acts: "circumcision, shaving pubic hair, plucking out armpit hair, cutting one's nails and trimming one's mustache" .

Muslim also reported from Anas (Radiya Allahu Anhu) that he said: A given period was limited to us as far as trimming the mustache, cutting one's nails, plucking out one's armpit hair and shaving one's pubic hair. We were told not to leave them for more than forty days .

So, it is not advisable for the man or the woman to leave any of the above more than 40 days, as this is a Sunnah of cleanliness and a means to remove impurity.

OK, you seem to have shown that muslims are advised by those sources to shave their pubic hair.

However your post stated that as a matter of fact muslim women do this.. Some may, but I believe most don't. I think muslims - men and women - follow the ruling to the extent of believing it is hygienic to keep the pubic hair reasonably trimmed. I can certainly assure you - again - that most women are not 'shaved' for example in Iran, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Pakistan; I can't speak with first hand certainty of other countries.

After all nobody follows all rulings to the letter - muslim, christian or martian.

Do you?

Do you?

of course i do! the Qr'an forbids wine. that's why i drink Port, Sherry and once in a while Bourbon.

this is questionable as 'tutsi the stud' can confirm that after dozens of encounters with muslim women in West Java during 3 years of residence observation indicates otherwise...

YOU are a way too far off topic!! I guess that's an offensive thing to use any religious books in such a way! :o

who ever said that tutsi is a 'real gentleman'?...a fake one, perhaps...however, this observation is for the TV readership's edification only...no gloating or triumphalism intended...

i have not used any "religious book" in "such a way" but quotes from the "Sunnah" which is NOT a religious book but interpretations based on Prophet Mohamed's (p.b.o.h.) sayings, teachings and actions.

although it seems that you are a muslim you should extend your knowledge and learn to differentiate between Qr'an, Sunnah and Hadith.

Well :D ;whether am Muslim or NOT :o I still think your post is off topic! LOOK at the first OP question :D !

I walked into my usual barber shop th`other day and he seemed reluctant about cutting my hair for a moment. My hair was wet. He asked if I was feeling hot and replied that I had just come out of the shower. He pointed to the chair.

Well :D ;whether am Muslim or NOT :o I still think your post is off topic! LOOK at the first OP question :D !

if you are bored why don't you go out and throw some small stones at passing old ladies?

Seems like a Thai urban legend to me..

Seems like a Thai urban legend to me..

You can say that again.

Never heard them in my whole life, and I'm from BKK.

Always go out with my hair wet because I spend time in the pool either at the hotel where I'm staying or at BK Sport Club almost every afternoon.

i humbly beg to add my two satangs. a veeeeery loooooong time ago a muslim girl in Naratiwat told me that it is the custom of muslim thai ladies to wash their after sex.

i agree with dr.naam 100%

I believe thai women in general - muslim or not - go off to wash afterwards. And yes, muslim women too - thai or not.

Good to see that this thread is finally returning to the subject matter.

Please keep your off-topic thoughts and flaming of other members to yourselves.

Taoism: shit happens

Buddhism: if shit happens, it isn't really shit

Islam: if shit happens, it is the will of Allah

Catholicism: if shit happens, you deserve it

Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us?

Atheism: I don't believe this shit

I prefer to let my hair dry naturally - either at home or out. Hair dryers are bad news.

In animal behaviour 562 we were taught that often the simplest explanation for an activity was often the most appropriate explanation. i.e. No need for some fancy theory to explain the obvious.

Wet hair is a dirt magnet. The practice may have originated in rural regions where there are unpaved roads and lots of blowing dirt. (Mind you BKK is just as bad with the smog). Maybe the ladies that dry off their hair first realize that it is easier to shake or brush out dirt from dry hair than it is when it becomes cemented to the hair as is the case when particulate matter lodges in wet hair.
