The incident unfolded on the night of October 25 in the Nong Bua area of Na Kae District, Nakhon Phanom, where a mentally ill 36-year-old man, identified only as Mr. A, lost his life in a fire that engulfed his home. Authorities believe the man, who had a history of mental illness linked to past drug use, set the fire himself.

Local police chief Pol. Col. Sa-nga Inthasathorn coordinated with forensic teams and other officials to investigate the blaze, which destroyed the two-story home, a half-concrete, half-wood structure. The house and all possessions within were reduced to ashes, and a vehicle parked under the house was also destroyed. Authorities later found the man's body in the charred remains on the lower floor, burned beyond recognition.

According to police and local residents, the deceased had been living alone after his father's death and his mother's move to work in another province. Previously addicted to methamphetamine, he had been diagnosed with mental health issues that caused frequent episodes of erratic behavior. Neighbours reported that, several months ago, he set fire to two of his own motorbikes during a similar episode. Two days before the fatal incident, he displayed signs of severe agitation.

Investigators suspect that his mental state prompted him to ignite some old tyres, which resulted in the blaze that ultimately claimed his life.

Authorities are conducting a detailed examination of the evidence and have issued a public reminder urging communities to monitor individuals exhibiting signs of mental instability, particularly those with a history of substance abuse, to help prevent further incidents.
