In a shocking incident captured on CCTV on October 27, two monks from Don Khanak Temple in Nakhon Pathom engaged in a violent altercation, wielding an axe and a knife, which left both men injured. Following the incident, the abbot has barred the monks from re-entering the monastic community.

Police Lt. Pisarn Rueangpan, Deputy Inspector of the Nakhon Pathom City Police Station, received a report about the violent encounter and dispatched officers along with the Nakhon Pathom Suksanaranukroh Foundation's medical team to the scene.

Upon arrival, authorities found Monk Chatrachai with a severe head injury from an axe blow and transferred him to Nakhon Pathom Hospital. The other involved party, Monk Chairat, aged 60, sustained minor injuries to his forehead. Nearby, blood- stained weapons, including a kitchen knife, a box cutter, and the axe, were discovered.

According to Monk Chairat, he reprimanded Monk Chatrachai for improper attire, which reportedly escalated the dispute. Monk Chatrachai allegedly retaliated with a knife, prompting Chairat to defend himself with the axe.

Eyewitness Sakchai Tenglue, a temple security officer, initially mistook the altercation for play. However, when the monks began striking each other with weapons, he and another temple member intervened to disarm them and separate the two. Police and emergency responders soon arrived and transported Monk Chatrachai to the hospital for treatment.

The temple's abbot, Phra Kru Pathom Kunakorn, acted swiftly following the incident. He defrocked Monk Chairat and informed the authorities, while Monk Chatrachai awaits further recovery and will be defrocked upon his discharge from the hospital.

According to another temple member, both monks have a long-standing history of discord, often trading harsh words and criticisms during temple activities. Despite previous warnings from the abbot to resolve their differences, the tension ultimately escalated to violence. The incident, now under investigation, will proceed in accordance with the law.
