In Kui Buri, a nearly one-tonne female gaur was found deceased in a pineapple plantation, believed to have died from injuries likely inflicted by a male gaur. The location, positioned about five kilometres from Kui Buri National Park, lies in a designated military safety zone.

Local reports state that a farmer discovered the decomposed carcass, prompting an investigation by forestry officials and a veterinary expert. The mature female was estimated to weigh between 800 and 1,000 kilogrammes and had injuries suggesting a violent confrontation. Although no external wounds were immediately visible, wart-like lesions and internal bruising confirmed a serious altercation.

Without signs of metal objects suggesting human interference, it was determined that the injuries matched the horn span of a male gaur, likely indicating a natural territorial dispute. Experts, led by Nopporn Akkamanee and Anurak Sakulpong, concluded that the gaur died approximately five days prior to discovery.

To mitigate any risk of disease transmission, officials recommended that the carcass be buried on-site. The head has been retained for further analysis. The incident is officially documented with Pran Buri Police, ensuring a thorough record of this wildlife encounter.

Sad to lose one of these beautiful creatures but unfortunately that’s how it works in the wild. If that indeed was the reason.

The male must have had a beef with her

For those of you not used to English slang, the term "beef" means to have a problem, fight, or argument.

Authorities have not yet ruled rape as a  motive, but note that the victim was nude when discovered.
