US Election Countdown: Tight Race in 2024 Presidential Election May Lead to Delayed Results

Featured Replies

American voters head to the polls on November 5 to select the next president, with the race between Democrat Kamala Harris, the current vice president, and Republican Donald Trump, the former president, anticipated to be a close one. Typically, election results have been announced within hours of the polls closing. However, given the competitive nature of this election, it’s possible that a winner may not be immediately declared.

Historically, some presidential elections have seen results as early as election night or the following morning, but this year may be different. The close race in many key states could result in longer waits, as media outlets may need more time before projecting a winner. In previous elections, results have been declared quickly.

In 2016, for instance, Trump was declared president shortly before 3 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) the day after the election. When Barack Obama won a second term in 2012, his victory was announced just before midnight on election day. However, the 2000 election between George W. Bush and Al Gore serves as a reminder of the potential for delay: the race wasn’t decided until December 12, following a controversial recount in Florida that was ultimately settled by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The possibility of narrow victories in crucial swing states raises the potential for recounts and legal battles. For instance, Pennsylvania mandates a state-wide recount if the winning margin is within half a percentage point. In 2020, Pennsylvania’s margin was a little over 1.1 percentage points. Legal challenges may also arise, as more than 100 lawsuits have already been filed on pre-election issues such as voter eligibility and voter roll management, many by Republicans. Additionally, any election-related disruptions at polling sites could further delay the outcome.

On the other hand, improvements in vote-counting processes might lead to quicker results in certain areas. Some states, like Michigan, have adopted faster counting methods, and with fewer mail-in ballots expected compared to the pandemic-affected 2020 election, the counting process could be shorter.

As polls close across the country on election night, early trends may start to emerge, though analysts urge caution. Known as the "red mirage," early results in some states may skew Republican, as smaller, more rural districts that often lean conservative tend to report faster than urban centers, which typically favor Democratic candidates. Election analysts point to seven swing states that will be closely watched, as they could determine the next president. These key battlegrounds include Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

The first polls close at 6 p.m. EST on election night, with results likely trickling in throughout the night. By 7 p.m. EST, early returns from states like Georgia could provide initial insights, though it will still be too early for any definitive conclusions. Polls in Pennsylvania, another crucial state, will close at 8 p.m. EST, but due to state laws, vote counting there cannot begin until the start of in-person voting, potentially slowing the reporting of results. The last polls close in Nevada at 10 p.m. EST, and given Nevada’s policy of counting mail-in ballots postmarked by election day if they arrive by November 9, it’s likely to take days before the state’s full count is known.

Inauguration Day for the next president is set for January 20, 2025, at the U.S. Capitol, marking the 60th presidential inauguration in American history. During the ceremony, the new president will take an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution and deliver their inaugural address to the nation.

It is going to be a close race. Worse still there is a very good chance that many voter registrations from mail-in will be illegal and counterfeit since that Democratic company was found to be distributing hundreds of thousands of fake ballots to ensure the Dems win.

They do not yet know the extent or reach of this fraud yet. Hopefully whatever the outcome is there will be a significant amount showing clearly who the winner is.

Also, Harris went on Saturday Night Live TV show and now the FCC are trying to take away the network license for unfair act resulting from her appearing there for free.

https://thehill.com/homenews/4968217-fcc-commissioner-claims-harris-on-snl-violates-equal-time-rule/

Seems the Dems are trying to do some last minute acts that are questionable to win. I am most certain they are worried a lot they will lose this election.

Biden/Harris have made it possible for a wide variety of voter fraud. I hope it bites them in the a--.

Funny thing is. All this is happening only with the Dems.

I can not wait until after elections if Trump wins to see the scandals the Dems create to get Trump out of the WH again.

Well  a riot in DC like in 2016 for sure, then takevovers in places like Minn, Orgon and Washington with the black clad antifa hordes establishing their own little zones, destroying others property,.

The authorities have to be careful because they Dems want violence perpetrated against "peaceful" demonstrators. Sort of like Hamas hiding behind children. Thats the playbook.

I think you are letting your understandable election anxiety get the better of you.

Chill, it’s going to be a peaceful election and a peaceful transition of power.

The results will be known early - Donald Trump will declare himself the winner on election night.

I estimate at 10.16 pm EST!

There are probably several judges across the USA already primed to step forward (by midnight) and rule conclusively that, having reviewed the evidence, that he is indeed the winner.

Rivers of hair dye will flow through Manhattan, the Kraken will rampage, and the car park of every dildo wholesaler nationwide will be crammed with celebrating people.

Pointing out a fact does not equate to anxiety. The only anxiety should be on the side of the fascist left as the early votes get analyzed.

There is no escape. If Harris wins, we will be subjected to four years of her cackling, embarrassed laughter. If Trump wins, it's another four years of listening to a guy who when he talks sounds just like Curly of the Three Stooges.

They can both be annoying (Harris more so), but at least the country will prosper under Trump and people will be able to afford their groceries again.

Unlike under Harris where people will be skint, censored, subject to mass illegal immigration and lectures on DEI and critical race theory. Plus that grating voice and inane cackle. At least Trump is funny (albeit not always intentionally).

I don't see it being close anyway. Trump is leading in the polls in most swing states and most polls underestimate Republican support.

I don't remember if it was Joe DeRita or Joe Besser who said as soon as he walked on set and saw a seltzer bottle he knew it was there for a reason. I can see it happening in the White House, no matter who is elected.

You didn’t point out any facts you made a prediction for the future.

The only fact about predictions of the future is the predicted events haven’t happened.

While I still believe Harris will win, perhaps easily, I could be wrong. One thing Trump has done, especially over the past couple of weeks, is soften some of his hard edges. He's done this through surrounding himself with Tulsi, Vivek, Elon, and even Vance. Meanwhile, the Democrats have spent the past week out executing squirrels.

In one of his last rallies, the felon was caught lying in real time. Just after he claimed massive crowds and "we never have an empty seat", a cameraman panned the venue to show thousands of empty seats.

Here's some photographs from the same rally. These sure look like empty seats. Maybe Kellyanne Conway will call it the "Silent Majority".

Dixville Notch just reported 50/50 (3 each) FYI

The latest NYT/Sienna College Poll shows Harris ahead in North Carolina, Georgia, Nevada and Wisconsin. The Des Moines Register poll shows her taking Iowa.

If those materialize, Harris will not even need Michigan, Arizona or Pennsylvania to win. If she takes MI and PA to boot, it will be a landslide.

You will have to educate me why a seltzer bottle is significant? Google gives me many uses but nothing applicable- I doubt the POTUS is going to be freeing up rusty screws.

In 2020, all 5 voted Biden. Now it's tied at 3 each.

Not looking good for Team Harris.

OMG !

Try this : A clever comedian knew better than to assume his genuine fame could be used to greater advantage in a campaign to become POTUS because his intelligent wit gave him insight to suited role.

Unlike Trump who possesses no wit at all and relies on sycophantic "helpers" who he dumps on as quickly as they  inevitably fail to perpetuate his delusion that the character he was paid to perform in the Apprentice.

It is a depressing reality that is the singular event that involved Trump that was a financial success .

Misguided attempts to emulate his father's success has resulted in the financial ruin of many conned contractors, lawyers and other grasping and/or deluded associates.

His first success as POTUS shocked and horrified most of the International political community who had to accommodate the fact.

Covid 19 interestingly intervened by the imposition of "shut downs" which curtailed the impact of the Trump "regime"as such by way of introduced  a suspiciously "global mandate" .

Exit that administration to an opposition that took legitimate control literally under duress and restored or enhanced the US economy as much as possible in the face of rampant global inflation to the point where in this election year it has surpassed all others.

That in spite of the continued Trump preferencial tax cuts for the very wealthy that under legislative application lasts into 2025.

The very last thing Trump is  is a financial wizard.

Beyond his personal desires for fame and recognition he cares nothing for people.

In this election he aspires to nothing less that return to POTUS and the capacity to inflict revenge.

The surviving  sycophants would be empowered to exercise the terms and conditions prescribed in the 2025 Scriptures  to return the US of A to tech version of the Medieval era .

And with that relinguishment of global influence the wheel of chaos will turn once more.

really want what you wish for?
