With substantial assistance from the Allies. And Allies pressure the West of Germany helped Russia to apply significant pressure from the East. And so far as helping win WW2, Russia demanded the spoils of defeating the Axis in Eastern Europe and Balkans by claiming sovereignty over countries it passed through to defeat the German army. Ultimately, giving rise to the Berlin Wall and a divided Germany for which it RULED as an authoritarian despot.

Once upon a time Iran was one of the more modern countries in the Middle East. WWII ended almost 80 years ago.
