What Will Trump’s Economic Plan Mean for American Wallets?

Featured Replies

Insightful interview with Financial Times business columnist Rana Foroohar. I suspect the phrase she has coined that "America may be on the verge of becoming a distressed asset" may prove to be prescient.

Trump's policies on fossil fuel production and fracking weren't referenced a single time in the interview so It's highly doubtful that you watched it. Fossil fuel production may stimulate economic growth in the short term, but when you factor in the economic costs of extreme weather caused by reliance on fossil fuels, the economic benefits are greatly diminished.  Are you familiar with the concepts of hidden economic costs and shifting costs from one generation to the next?  A scholarly analysis of proposed economic policies is now being dismissed out of hand as propaganda and resented as condescension coming from egghead elites? If that's the case, we're in deep trouble people.

This is more wishful thinking on your part.

The world is awash with oil so I guess drill baby drill was just a populist slogan.

Okay let''s be obtuse for no reason. Things like the Keystone pipeline will help.

Me obtuse? Get a grip. I offered a rational explanation why "drill baby drill" is meaningless tripe and you come back with some kind of deflection that has nothing to do with drilling. Here is more. How is the keystone pipeline going to help? Going to help what? Transport more oil than it's commercially viable to drill?

How about you pad out your answers with some rationale. No wonder people get offside.

Yes drill baby drill was a campaign slogan. Let's not let shiny objects distract us.

I didn't. The MAGA morons fell for this shiny object.

A campaign slogan isn't going to hurt the American pocket book. Energy production and distribution whether it is LPG, NG, oil or nuclear is going to help. Oil may become more scarce if the nails are put to Russia and Iran.

What was the alternative high paying jobs in factories making solar panels?

What do you suggest?

I suggest maybe political candidates be a little more honest with low information voters.

Please grow up.

I have lived through many waves of refugees. The first among them was the Hmong in Minnesota. Yeah they shoot geese, ducks, pigeons, etc with home made devices. They are used to that in their home country. The fact a pet or two might go missing with a large amount of third world refugees isn't surprising to me.

When I lived on Don Det Laos, if Cambodian or Viet Namese workers came through you kept your pets close.

Why is this continuing to be a big deal when it is well known that humans still consume those meats. Putting aside the Springfield thing I don't see where the continued surprise and shock are.

The Human Lemmings are having a party and dance on top of the cliff ... just before they jump ...

They all love the money more than everything , they live for it , they kill for it , the more they got , the more they want ...

bound for destruction , they still want more and more , incapable to realize their own stupidity ...

A failed species , incapable of mental evolution , they just follow what evil leaders tell them .

I am sorry for the planet and it's non human inhabitants , the humans create their own misery and , finally , extinction ...

Bravo !

This is the epitome of the nutcase drivel that just got rejected on a wholesale basis in my country.

Hmm ...a Financial Times business columnist or a handful of climate change denying MAGAs on A.N.

Just who does one believe?

Just wait , the hurricanes will get you , or the flooding , or the fires ... no more food , harvests will be destroyed , drinking water polluted ... all because of human greed ...

Have you looked around lately? Mainstream business columnists are about to go out of work. They are never right.
