Money grab at Fisherman's?

Not sure if this is official or just the police being creative.

'No parking' signs have gone up on the road into Fisherman's Village coming from Bangrak.

These signs are made from some kind of plastic covered material and are just tied onto the lamp posts.

They turn in the wind!

Now, it is a good thing that something is being done about the parking there but this one seems to be a bit flakey.

The signs run from QR restaurant (and Chez Francois on the opposite side) down to the one way exit road.

I saw quite a few cars clamped with the police coming along later to collect the money and unclamp them.

The next money grab comes after 20:00 or if you try and park from where the signs stop - the owners come out and ask for 50 baht parking fee.

Update:

It is a money grab.

My Thai business partner was contacted by a guest the other night 'Help - paper stuck to my windscreen and the car is clamped' so she went to Fisherman's to sort it out.

She managed to get the car released.  She said that there were about 15-20 cars clamped and a load of motorbikes chained together.

At 500 baht a pop that is not bad for one night's work.

I said that the local Thais must be pxssed off about this and she replied 'Oh no. Thais not have to pay.'

bikes are 500 baht, clamped cars are charged 1000 baht. I KNOW! ☹️

There are a couple of plots of land along there that charge THB100 for cars. Used to be THB20. Someone is raking it in.

Is the land private? if so, they have every right to enforce the no parking rule. If public land, then it is indeed theft.
