In light of a recent incident where seven traffic police officers allegedly assaulted an individual at a checkpoint, the Thai National Police has been urged to ensure that all checkpoints across the country operate within established protocols.

 

Following an alleged assault at a police checkpoint, the Thai National Police Chief has ordered all checkpoints nationwide to comply strictly with protocols. The incident involved seven traffic officers, who now face preliminary charges while further investigations continue.

 

The case is being overseen by senior police officials, who are collecting evidence from CCTV, body cameras, and witness testimonies to ensure a fair and transparent process.

The Police Chief expressed regret over the incident and promised thorough actions against any wrongdoing, aiming to prevent recurrence and maintain public order.

 

Progress in the case includes preliminary charges against the involved officers, with further inquiries underway to assess additional offences. Disciplinary investigations have also been initiated.

 

Pol. Lt. Gen. Achiyon Kraithong, police spokesperson, expressed the organisation's regret over the incident affecting the victim and their family. He assured that the case would proceed transparently and without bias. If criminal or disciplinary violations are confirmed, stringent action will be taken, including administrative measures against commanding officers.

 

The National Police Chief has reiterated the importance of compliance with regulations and tactical procedures for police checkpoints nationwide, aiming to prevent such incidents from recurring and uphold public order effectively, reported Siam Rath.

Or just stop this checkpoint nonsense once and for all. Static checkpoints are probably the least effective method for routine enforcement of traffic laws - other than just staying inside the police box and never coming out onto the road at all, which is the most popular strategy here...

They were supposed to stop already... Almost 2 years ago the National police chief ended checkpoints. But it must have hurt a lot of police income. So in Feb they allowed it again with stricter rules supposedly. I guess getting caught on cam and publicized was not one of their guidelines for the checkpoints they set up now.... 

Everytime I take the tollway, I get stopped by the police when i am paying the toll. I have seen them run from the office on the left to my car just to try to catch me driving without a Thai permit. Luckily, I have one.

I guess there must be a reason why 7 police officers assaulted someone, but I cant find such detail. Please share.

Do they run from the left side to every car to try to catch folks driving without a Thai permit?

no... Only have seen them run out to catch me before i drive away and block me pulling out of the payment booth driveway... ask for permit and when. i begin digging for it.. they either walk away or wait to see it for real...

Do they? Every time you use the toll they run out of the office to your passenger side to catch you for not having a license? Really??

I have been driving here for close to 30 years and I have been taken aside at a toll booth once and that was because I was speeding prior to the toll and they had radioed ahead.

You must be mega unlucky to have them running at you every time you use the tollway. Poor you - the only guy in Thailand that this happens to.

not every time... but enough to see the pattern.. i go to Bangkok about once a month... lately it has been more... Driving from the south... But it has happened to me on several tollways.... Usually i am driving with the window down so i can smoke comfortably. So probably the cameras see me prior to arriving at the tollbooth... .. It does not change the fact that it has happened to me 4 times in the past 2 months though... Funny for me because I have a thai permit.. When they know this they walk away head down.. 

Got to keep an eye out for them submersible check points.

Think they are targeting,  speeding jet skis.

It's a step forward at least.

Admittedly I did NOT read the article, as I have seen the headline so many times... basically they are saying that the checkpoints have NOT been following protocol, so what makes them, or us, or Thais, believe anything will change, is this just another photo op, that we see so often... followed by no actual change.

I see they at least had the presence of mind to try the window wipers, that extra momentum might have done the trick.

Get a Thai driver's licence, all problems solved. 

All the years I have been residing in Thailand, I've never seem a checkpoint.

 

Are they only set up at certain places and times?

Some of the replies make me laugh, like yours, as it is so stupid. Obviously check points would be mainly at very late hours and obviously they would also be at specific places. That is the entire purpose of a alcohol checkpoint ><

It's like you say you never saw a boat while you live in the mountains.

If these so called checkpoints want to catch drink drivers then they should set one up in the province where I am. They would have a field day.

I wonder how police will react if the "victim" starts to take photos or v-clips of them?

Reminds me of driving into Pattaya one day. Two police were on the side of the road so drunk it was dangerous. Waving over cars and no conversation except. 200baht... Line of cars with bills hanging out the windows ... barely stopped... hahaha.  About 10 years ago now.

 

I did a 260km journey yesterday. I counted 7 police road checks. Kerchingggggg
