A crash occurred on the morning of December 8, as a van descending Doi Inthanon at speed collided with a white Mitsubishi Pajero and a pickup truck, leaving all three vehicles severely damaged. The van then hit a power pole before coming to a stop in a roadside ditch on its side.

The incident was reported to Chom Thong Police Station in Chiang Mai at approximately 10:00. The crash site was located on the downhill road leading from Doi Inthanon, just before the entrance to Wachirathan Waterfall.

At the scene, authorities found the white Pajero wrecked, stopped in the middle of the road. The pickup truck had overturned on the left side of the road. The van was found in a ditch with extensive damage, its front facing uphill towards Doi Inthanon.

Eyewitnesses reported that the van was traveling downhill at speed when it first collided with the Pajero, causing the Pajero to spin out and hit a steel barrier before coming to rest in the middle of the road. The van then struck the pickup truck, which veered off the road, collided with a tree, and overturned. The van finally slammed into a power pole before losing control and coming to rest in a roadside ditch.

Four people in the van, including the driver and passengers, were seriously injured. The drivers of the Pajero and the pickup truck also sustained severe injuries. Rescue teams transported all the injured individuals to Chom Thong Hospital for treatment.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and will pursue legal action as necessary.

Should be mandatory throttle limiters integrated with clinometers on those tourists vans, especially the ones from Bangkok

Where is the mandatory "brakes failed" excuse?

It is funny...They will only let us cycle up Doi Inthanon but if we cycle down it is a 1000 baht fine...They want us to get in one of these vans or the red trucks instead as it is safer???

They should tell the silver van drivers THEY have to walk down or catch a red truck & let a tow truck take their vans down 🤣
