Man, this is a horrible story. Check-in staff poring over the (slightly) messed-up page(s), taking a photo and sending to Thai immigration for a yay-or-nay verdict? You think you've heard it all before, and then this comes along. Not just for the OP, but for everyone it's more validation to not ever let anything be stapled into the passport. It's crazy...passports are so key, they take time and money to renew/replace, and something so mundane as a staple can 'take them out', causing hassle, lost time and unnecessary expense.
