An incident occurred in Rayong Province when a 19-year-old canal cleaner drowned while working in strong currents in Klong Yai. The young man was swept away in front of his coworkers, sparking an immediate and extensive rescue operation.

The Rayong Municipal Disaster Relief Unit, in collaboration with the Sawang Porngkuchon Foundation, responded to an emergency call for assistance, on December 13. Witnesses reported that the victim, whose name has been withheld, was battling the strong water current while attempting to clean the canal when he suddenly disappeared beneath the surface.

The search operation was launched swiftly, with numerous rescue teams and volunteers from various points in Rayong, including the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department and Sawang Porngkuchon Foundation.

After an intensive effort, the body of the victim was recovered by divers and handed over to the Sawang Porngkuchon rescue unit, who transported him to the hospital for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. Arrangements are underway to inform the family.

The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Rayong Municipality Police Station, who have launched an investigation into the event.
