Dear Folks,

One thing that always freaks me out is....the....

Exponential Function.

And, similarly, during the past decade, or more, since I arrived in Thailand, this trip, I have become worried about just how much data can be...

Stored in the cloud.....SUSTAINABLY.

Do you ever worry about this, too?

Also, what is a zettabyte, anyway?

And, let's keep in mind that the need for cloud storage of data has been increasing for awhile, yet the intensity of this increase is.....now....

INCREASING...as expected.

SO then.....

Since everyone here is familiar with the exponential function....

Something will give, sooner or later, and probably sooner.

So, the question is:

Do you believe that storage providers will be able to keep up with world demand, even though demand might be exponential.

And, question TWO....do you think that the required energy for data storage will be sustainable?

Here you can see the discrepancy between supply and demand for storage:

The storage capacity in this chart is using exabyte units.

But, perhaps, we are already into Zettabyte territory.

Is it possible that, due to exponential growth, the energy demand for data storage will, someday soon....

Exceed, by a factor of 10, the energy production of the entire world?

Might this cause a few problems, before 2030, for those who wish to store data, such as family photos, just one insignificant problem among other problematic problems?

What will you do if/when cloud data becomes impractical?

Where will you keep your data, then.....?
