Unemployed Man Takes His Own Life in Car After Financial Struggles

A 48-year-old man was found dead inside his car in a case of apparent suicide, believed to be triggered by financial pressures stemming from unemployment. The incident occurred near a community behind Wat Woraprot Sangkhawas, Bang Nang subdistrict, Phan Thong district, Chonburi province.

 

Police from Phan Thong Police Station, along with rescue workers, responded to the scene at approximately 11:00mon December 23. The man, identified as Mr. Tawit, was discovered sitting lifeless in the driver's seat of a white car. Next to him were an empty bottle of insecticide and a partially consumed bottle of soda. Officials estimate he had been deceased for two days, as his body had started to bloat.

 

Mrs. Somchit, a 61-year-old neighbour, recounted that the deceased had recently confided in her about his financial struggles. Having lost his job, he faced mounting stress from not being able to meet daily expenses or keep up with car loan payments. He had been taking on odd jobs to make ends meet.

 

"He told me he recently joined a friend in fishing with a dragnet for three days and earned just 900 baht," Mrs. Somchit said. "The last time I saw him was on Friday evening. I usually check on his house, but I didn't over the weekend. This morning, I noticed the car door was slightly open. When I looked inside, I found him dead."

 

Mrs. Daeng, a 70-year-old grocery shop owner, recalled a chilling conversation with the man before his death. "He came to buy liquor from my shop and said, 'I won't be around anymore. I asked where he was going, but he only replied, 'Grandma, I'm not going to be here anymore,' before leaving with the bottle. I assumed he meant he was moving for work. I never thought it would come to this."

 

Police have sent the body for an autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death.
