The Thai cabinet has approved expanding the "digital wallet" program, offering 10,000 baht to citizens aged 60 and above. Payments will be made before January 29, ahead of the Chinese New Year.

To qualify, seniors must register via the "thang rath" app. This second phase has a budget of 40 billion baht, aiding four million seniors.

Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat mentioned that those without smartphones can register through alternative methods after New Year, with details to be announced.

The scheme's first phase began in late September, disbursing 10,000 baht each to 14.5 million people with disabilities and state welfare cardholders directly into their bank accounts.

Delays in the second phase were caused by financial challenges. Meanwhile, about 20 million people from other age groups are still awaiting support.

They should get it this year but it got delayed several times. Now promising other people money while the first group is still waiting.

The disbursements are being handed out, in phases, to those having the greatest need first. That, to me makes complete sense. Why are folks having problems with that?

If you make campaign promises that everybody will get it this year, you should do so.

Not come up with other promises while you haven't fulfilled your first one.

The only issue is that most seniors can not afford a fancy smart phone nor how to operate it.

In order for them to get the 10 K they have to spend 7 k on a phone

I am I missing something here.

Yes you are missing something. Try reading the full article.

My wife's sister, who holds a welfare card, has already received her 10k and she's never had a smartphone in her life.
