Canada is Petrified
It's difficult to find consumer products made in the USA. But there are some. Benchmark Audio and McIntosh Audio, both made in New York State.. Magnepan speakers, from Minnesota.. Some of the small electronic parts may be sorted internationally. Those are just a few examples. Where do they make Wrangler jeans? Lee jeans? I think one of those companies still manufactures in the USA. Ditto for some of the car tire companies. Of course, they make some wines in the USA, as well as some hard liquor. The US still has somewhat of a manufacturing base, especially to supply the auto industry. For example, I have two cousins who have a manufacturing facility in New York State. They employ hundreds of people and have customers all over the world. Mainly in the USA, though. -

Man Severely Injured by Electric Shock While Cutting High-Voltage Wires in Samut Prakan
Picture from responders A 30-year-old man was severely injured in the early hours of the morning of December 27, after receiving an electric shock, while attempting to cut high-voltage wires near the Samut Prakan Treasury Office, just 200 metres from the local police station. At approximately 03:50, emergency services, including rescue teams from Samut Prakan Hospital, the Ruamkusol Foundation, the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, and electricity authority officials, rushed to the scene on Sukhumvit Road, near the Clock Tower intersection in Pak Nam Subdistrict, Mueang District. The man, identified as Mr. Bundasak, was found clinging to a high-voltage electricity pole, crying out in pain after being shocked by a 24,000-volt current. Electricity officials promptly cut off the power supply to enable rescuers to use a cherry-picker to retrieve him. He sustained severe burns on his arms and torso and was provided with first aid before being rushed to Samut Prakan Hospital. Further investigation revealed that the man had tools for cutting wires in his pocket, as well as a grey Honda Wave motorcycle parked on the pavement nearby. Under the seat of the bike, authorities found a sack containing cutting tools and a 1-metre length of cable that had already been severed. Witness Mr. Wutthisak Faipiwchai, 46, a taxi driver, reported that he had been waiting at a red light near the scene when he noticed sparks and an electrical explosion that caused a brief power outage. Looking up, he saw a man on the wires and immediately alerted a passing police patrol. Mr. Wutthisak stated he did not see the man climbing the pole but only noticed him after the incident occurred. Preliminary investigations by police suggest that the man may have been attempting to steal cables but accidentally cut into high-voltage wires instead, leading to the life-threatening incident. Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter, with further action pending if he survives. -- 2024-12-28 -

Bold Ambush: Bombing of Armoured Vehicle in Yala Kills Police Officer
The Malay Muslim insurrection to regain back some degree of autonomy of the Muslim dominated area formerly known as the sovereign Kingdom of Patani has been ongoing for more than two decades. With the exception of the Yingluck Thai government's willingness to negotiate a resolution, there is nothing to escalate per se. Since the Thaksin then Prayut and succeeding Thai governments, there has appeared to be tolerance to the death and destruction resulting from the insurrection on both sides. Irrespective of Thai governments seeming facade to conduct peace negotiations with Muslim Federation of Malaysia and major Malay Muslim insurrection groups - given that in all this time of decades, the Thai government has maintained a State of Emergency over the area that denies the Muslims of all Thai constitutional freedoms. -

Pattaya Tourist Police Surprise Visitors with Sweets and Safety App
I remember when I was in Pattaya many years ago, around the early 2000s, and met the boss of the Tourist police, He is now a General. I was with a Thai lady, she was a friend who worked both as liaison for the BBC in Thailand, and in the office of HM the King, The Head of the Tourist Police in Pattaya couldn't speak English, (their offices used to be located near the offices of the Pattaya Mail on second road), and they rarely answered incoming calls to their hotline. They would make a photo op out of reuniting a foreigner with a lost passport etc, I found them useless. I hope things have got better. -
