Putin Expresses Readiness for Talks with Trump to End Ukraine War

Russian President Vladimir Putin has voiced his readiness for potential talks with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to address the ongoing war in Ukraine. Speaking at his end-of-year news conference in Moscow, Putin stated he has not communicated with Trump in years and that no meeting is currently planned. However, he emphasized his willingness to engage in discussions and make compromises to resolve the nearly three-year-long conflict.

“I don’t know when we will meet because he has not said anything about it,” Putin remarked, adding, “I have not talked to him for more than four years. Of course, I’m ready to talk any time; I will be ready to meet with him if he wishes.”

Trump, who has promised to lead peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, has claimed he could end the conflict within 24 hours of assuming office. During an address at the AmericaFest convention, he suggested that Putin is keen to begin negotiations. “President Putin said that he wants to meet with me as soon as possible,” Trump said. “So we have to wait for this, but we have to end that war. That war is horrible, horrible.”

Putin insisted that he would not be approaching talks from a position of weakness. “I believe that Russia has become significantly stronger in the past two or three years,” he stated. “Why? Because we are becoming a truly sovereign country, and we barely depend on anybody. We are strengthening our defense capability. The combat readiness of the Russian Armed Forces is the highest in the world today. I assure you it is the highest.”

Despite his confidence, Putin reiterated his openness to compromise, stating, “Politics is the art of compromise. We have always said that we are ready for both negotiations and compromises. The problem is that the opposing side, both literally and figuratively, rejected negotiations. We, on the contrary, have always been willing to talk, and talking always leads to finding a compromise.”

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who recently met with Trump in Paris, has indicated a willingness to cede territory to Russia if it would bring an end to the war. Trump, during a press conference in Palm Beach, Florida, acknowledged the complexity of the situation, admitting that resolving the Ukraine conflict would be more challenging than dealing with turmoil in the Middle East.

“It’s a tough one. It’s a nasty one,” Trump said of the war. Despite these challenges, he noted having made “a little progress” toward brokering peace.

As the world watches, the prospect of a meeting between Putin and Trump could signal a significant step toward resolving the devastating conflict in Ukraine. However, the success of any negotiations remains uncertain, hinging on the willingness of all parties to engage in meaningful compromise.

Putin is calling in his markers. When you have invested as much into this president as the Russians have, you expect things.

Trump Jr admitted as much 15 years back when he explained who invested in Trump Golf Course developments. Then again, Putin is ex KGB who openly mourns the demise of the Soviet Union. Can't believe that he didn't honey trap Trump when given the chance, given Dons legendary lack of self control/restraint.

Still, it's what Amerika wants. Putin is going to grab Uncle Sam by the back of the neck, bend him over and pound him. All to the cheers of right wingers & mooks in the US, those patriotic types  who wrap themselves in the flag.

Happy I am overseas!!

Except for N. Korea. They will require more troops from N. Korea to fill their ranks that have been killed already.

Russia has not shown any strength at all. They should have easily taken the UK given the size difference between both countries as well as their weapons capacity.

Russia is about 28 times bigger than Ukraine. Ukraine is approximately 603,550 sq km, while Russia is approximately 17,098,242 sq km, making Russia 2,733% .

I think this war, has been going on for 3 years simply because it makes Russia money and reduces their population.

They do not gain anything by winning the war.

My gas is that Trump will show his fealty to Putin by agreeing that Russia should keep all of the territory that they've gained in Ukraine to date, and that negotiations will begin there. Russia will never give up any of the territory that it's gained, unless it's hand is forced, and Trump will be the last man in the world to force the hand of Russia.

Looks like Putin is quietly, but desperately, looking for an out from this whole tragedy.

This reminds of Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs......

The only problem is that this means more suffering and death in Ukraine. If it were not for the price paid by Ukraine, I would say let the war continue until the Russians understand that living under a dictatorship, and the false sense of security it can provide, comes at a very high price.

But even when the war is over, Russia's troubles will only have just begun.

Yeah - they're running out of North Korean washing machines to make their missiles out of - 'eh?
And the Ukrainian Army has the poorly equipped and unmotivated Ruskie conscripts pushed back to Mariupol as the Ukrainian Army is taking back all of the The Donbass in a massive offensive.  Surely in the next three months Russia will be pushed back to Moscow and begging to surrender.

Ditto. If he wants to keep the Donbas and Odessa, fine. Odessa was founded by Russians anyway and the Ukraine itself is an artificial creation anyway. Let him keep it and go away, no removal of sanctions, etc.

Putin has made this claim several times but his view of ending the war require Ukraine to give up significant parts of their country which is ridiculous.

Your, let’s say, less than cheerful demeanor. Your need (obsession) to attack, offend and belittle anyone who dares to disagree with you. The way you lash out when you feel threatened.

You’re the one who, out of nowhere, dragged religion and morality into this topic. I just pointed out that the two have absolutely nothing to do with each other. No need for further discussion, thank you very much.
