And we really need a thread and a poll to get a sensible answer to the question?

After the response from some members last night who were in support of the motorcyclist I have sadly judged that to be the case.

What kind od question is This?

A sidewalk is for peditrens and not for motorbikes.... and you don't know this?

Why don't you read my OP here instead of just leaving a flippant remark???

It's not hard.

Does it really matter what motorbikes are or are not allowed to do in Thailand?

Don't motorcyclists do as they please anyway?

Neither of those are driving on the sidewalk.

What's your point?

#1 your poll doesn't mention  or specify 'driving fast', to which I feel most people would vote no

#2 I would be surprised if MANY people have shown SUPPORT for motorbikes driving FAST down sidewalks

When I'm walking, I get out of their way.

When I'm riding on the pavement (very occasionally) I do so slowly, for as short a distance as possible, and always giving way and showing respect to pedestrians.

Sounds like you are part of the problem and should know better - maybe one day some large farang will give you a good slapping so that you can learn

So far 21.88% of AN members think that motorbikes should be allowed to drive on the sidewalk.

Let that sink in for a minute.....

Yep.

No doubt it will be the usual suspects.

Not naming names because it's an anonymous poll but it's not hard to guess.

How about the bleedin road!!

That's what it's there for.

The pavement/sidewalk/footpath should be for walking only.

Imagine seeing someone in the UK driving down a pavement at full speed, or in Australia, or Switzerland...

Could you imagine it? There would be uproar and rightly so!!

It's getting commonplace in the UK now, only it's bikes, electric bikes & electric scooters instead of motorbikes. My local shopping area in Oxford appears to be getting as lawless as Thailand! Here in SamutPrakan the Prakasa road has a new green painted cycle lane which appears to function as a ghost lane for motorbikes going against the adjacent traffic!

It didn't make me laugh last night either.

I was almost knocked down by a speeding motorbike on the sidewalk.

Understand?

Do you mean the Pavement?

read my original thread on this topic from last night.

the ignorant pig was driving very fast, to which most people have come out in support.

There's very few 'pavements' in Thailand generally. Many times cars and vans park over them, surely we should try to make them safer??

...what was the red tiled section I was walking on last night then? It had a curb on the edge of it too..

I voted no of course...

But, there is also a small 'grey area'... i.e. when parking up (and the area where motorcycles are parking is on the pavement - in which case, they should be driving very carefully) - it could be argued that they get off and push, but the risk of tip over is higher and there is less control, so thats less safe IMO.

The Pavements / sidewalks should never be used in lieu of a road - and I think this is an issue in Thailand, where the roads become gridlocked... The cars jammed up, the motorcycles have 'filled all the gaps'...   other motorcyclists then think its ok to circumnavigate the gridlock by riding down the pavement with flagrant disregard for any regulations...

... & why not? there is very very little chance of them getting caught...

... just like the cars who follow the vehicle in front through the red traffic light and the other 4 or 5 behind them before they are stranded, left 'pregnant' in the middle of the box-junction blocking the other traffic for whom the lights have turned green.

Lets face it - such is the lack of effective policing, its amazing anyone follows any regulations at all really...

And? So? What does that have to do with the price of a short time in Soi 6?

I didn't mention anything about Trump at all. I laugh about him a lot these days, but I keep it to myself.

So are you piss drunk already? You probably are, but that's OK, it is nearly New Year's and it's two in the afternoon, so it's fine. I just can't imagine how sloppy drunk you are gonna be by the time you post your next fictional yarn later this evening.

i'll be awaiting your next pile of trash with bated breath.

Maybe this binary thinking is why you hate Thailand so much ???...

Mark didn't write there are 'no pavements', he wrote there are 'very few'... and thats true of a lot of area's of Thailand, though in most built up areas, there are of course pavements / sidewalks...

... most are hardly navigable by foot, let alone motorcycle - but where there exists the combination of space and gridlocked traffic, this space (pavements / sidewalks) becomes utilised as an over-flow road - and thats an issue when pedestrians use the same space.

I can only tell you about the women, but if you need to know about the men (ladyboys), then you'll need to ask bob.

Sour grapes much? You sound rather bitter these days. Chins up, R2D2, it's only a few more years till the democrats lose again.
