Hi All.

Happy new year.

My Airbnb rental finishes in a few days. The advert stated tenant would pay electric, which I'm happy to do. However when speaking to the apartment service manager recently they said we were not told you were paying electric and hence have not recorded the electric meter.

Anticipating this hiccup upon checking out, whats the best thing to do?

Many thanks.

I would consult the owner of the property and explain the situation.

Before doing that, I would also ask the property manager what a "normal" or "average" monthly electric bill might be for that room type/geographic location and then offer some proportion of that amount (depending upon your length of stay) to the owner as a workaround.

If the owner is recalcitrant or insists on charging what you consider to be an unfair amount, I'd pay nothing and then let AirBnb sort it out for you.

What electric rate per unit were you quoted?

Careful they don't blow the unit rate out.

Thanks, it's a good idea for other members to know, so they can be aware. 👍

Most Airbnb will give you an honest rate.  They don't want a bad review.  Just don't worry about it until you get the bill.  If it seems reasonable just pay it.
