Hi everyone,

I’m seeking advice on the steps required to replace my lost 5-year Thai driving license. Here are the details of my situation:

  • My 5-year Thai driving license was issued on January 31, 2024, in Thailand.
  • Unfortunately, I lost it about 3 months ago in Germany.
  • I am currently only in possession of my international Thai driving license (gray booklet), which was also issued on January 31, 2024.

I would like to know:

  1. What documents are required to apply for a replacement?
    • Is it enough to bring my TM30, some passport photos, and my international Thai driving license?
  2. Do I need to provide additional documents like my passport, residence certificate, or anything else?
  3. How long does the process take, and can it be done in a single visit?

Any advice on where to go and what to prepare would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,
Mic

Sounds like you need to comply with local German laws.

Since you lost your DL from Thailand, you need to get a German DL--if you are driving.  Not sure if you need a DL if you don't drive for identification purposes...

YOUR PAPERS PLEASE! 💂‍♂️

If your foreign driver's license is from a non-EU/EEA country, you can use it for up to six months after arriving in Germany.

After six months, you must exchange it for a German license to continue driving legally.

there is no more need to do a police report (as in the past).

Go to your local DLT and ask for a replacement. I'm not sure if you need any other documentation than your ID (Passport).

I lost in 2024 my valet which had the thai motorcycle license, and also my Thai pink ID card for foreigners. When i went to the DLT office in Bangkok for renewal driver licence. The first message i got, was to go get a pink ID card, no way around this one ( i tried), which i found very strange as not everyone has this card. I had it, (but they didnt know i had one) but amazingly i lost it in the same valet. So, i had to go to Police station to report lost driver license, lost pink ID card for foreigner. Then the trip went to Amphur office (government office i got the ID card), to create a new pink ID card, which went smoothly (had to show police report). Then with new id card in hand, went back to DLT office with the new pink id card, and the police report, and got a new driver license. Im still a vbit confused as why i had to have a thai id card to get a thai driver license. That was no issue back in time when i first got the license. This is in Bangkok Sukhumvit. Tell the experience in case the information is of any help to anyone,. Have a good day

And if you didn't already, when you do get the new license add it to the "DLT QR LICENCE" app on your phone.  That works great and you'll always have it in case of future needs.
