At approximately 13:00 on January 11, Pol. Lt. Col. Sanan Kotanont, Deputy Inspector of Muang Pattaya Police Station (Dongtan Substation), received a report of a shooting incident resulting in injuries and a fatality at a condominium in Soi Thepprasit 17, Moo 12, Pattaya., Bang Lamung District, Chonburi.

The officer immediately informed his superiors and proceeded to the scene with Pol. Col. Navin Theerawit, Superintendent; Pol. Lt. Col. Thananon Athipansi, Deputy Superintendent, an investigative team, forensic officers and rescue volunteers from Sawang Boriboon Foundation.

The incident occurred at an eight-storey condominium. On the fourth-floor fire escape, rescue workers found a Thai woman, later identified as Miss Chonlata, 34, lying unconscious in a pool of blood. She had sustained two gunshot wounds from a .38 calibre revolver-one to her left chest and another to her left abdomen. Rescue workers provided first aid before rushing her to Pattaya City Hospital, in a critical condition.

The assailant fled to a sixth-floor apartment, where a single gunshot was heard shortly afterwards. Police found the body of the suspect, Mr. Chonwatchara, 40, lying on a bed with a gunshot wound to the right cheek, the bullet lodged in his head, with no exit wound. His right hand gripped a .38 calibre revolver tightly. The suspect, a driver for a ride-hailing app, had apparently taken his own life. Forensic officers collected fingerprints, gunpowder residue, and other evidence from the scene.

A condominium staff member reported hearing a heated argument between a man and a woman on the sixth floor, followed by two gunshots near the fourth-floor fire escape. Upon investigation, the staff found the injured woman lying in blood and immediately alerted the authorities. Ten minutes later, another gunshot was heard from the sixth-floor apartment, believed to be the suspect's.

Ms. Chon, 33, the wife of the deceased suspect, stated that her husband had left their home at 05:00. She was unaware of his relationship with the victim, as he regularly spent time with her and their child. She was shocked to learn that he had shot another person before turning the gun on himself.

Pol. Col. Navin Theerawit stated that initial investigations suggested the suspect was distressed after the victim ended their relationship. It is believed that she ended the affair upon discovering the suspect was married. Despite his attempts at reconciliation, she refused, leading him to shoot her before taking his own life.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

It amaze me where they get these gun from, it seem every man and his dog has a gun !!!

Up to 17 million of them in Thailand depending on what you read.

That is a conservative guesstimate.

Impossible to tell as many are home made or illegally modified.

It seems to be the top hobby of every technical college student to make a gun so if the black market of brand-name guns are too expensive, there are cheaper alternatives.

When I was in the Philippines a friends showed me a replica handgun that looked and functioned like the original, but less expensive.  Why not in Thailand.

There is a connected article in the BP this morning (last story of three)

It seems that there is a whole village north of Ayutthaya producing converted/illegal guns. The article mention OTOP.
