The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued its 8th weather warning for heavy rain, identifying key provinces that will be most affected. Temperatures will drop by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius (°C) across many regions.

 

A moderate high-pressure system persists over upper Thailand and the South China Sea, causing cooler temperatures in the northern, northeastern, and central areas of Thailand. These regions will experience cold to very cold weather, particularly in mountainous areas where frost is expected. Meanwhile, the east and upper south regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, will see cool mornings. Residents are advised to dress warmly and be cautious of potential fire hazards due to dry conditions.

The northeast monsoon over the lower Gulf of Thailand and southern region remains strong, leading to heavy rain in parts of the lower south. The Gulf of Thailand’s lower section will experience strong winds with waves reaching 2 to 3 metres, exceeding 3 metres in stormy areas. The upper Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will see waves around 2 metres, with higher surges during storms. Residents in the eastern southern region should be on alert for heavy rain and coastal waves. Seafarers are urged to navigate carefully and avoid sailing in stormy conditions. Small boats in the lower Gulf should stay ashore until today, January 18.

 

Current weather conditions could increase dust accumulation due to moderate air circulation and weakening winds in some areas of upper Thailand.

The northern region will be cold with morning fog, with temperatures dropping by 1 to 2°C, and lows of 10 to 17°C and highs of 26 to 31°C. Mountain tops will be very cold with frost in some areas, with lows of 2 to 8°C.

The northeastern region will experience cold weather, with temperatures decreasing by 1 to 2°C, and lows of 9 to 16°C and highs of 26 to 30°C. Mountain peaks will be very cold, with lows of 6 to 12°C.

The central region will have a cool to cold morning, with temperatures dropping by 1 to 2°C, and lows of 15 to 19°C and highs of 30 to 32°C.

 

The eastern region will have a cool morning, with temperatures dropping by 1 to 2°C, and lows of 17 to 22°C and highs of 31 to 33°C. Waves will reach 1 to 2 metres, reaching 2 metres offshore.

 

The southern region (east coast) will be cool in upper areas, with temperatures dropping by 1 to 2°C and thunderstorms in 30% of areas and heavy rain in Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Temperature ranges from lows of 18 to 24°C to highs of 29 to 31°C. Winds will travel at 20 to 35 kilometres per hour (km/h), with waves reaching around 2 metres, exceeding 2 metres in stormy areas.

 

The southern region (west coast) will see thunderstorms in 20% of areas, mainly in Trang and Satun, with temperatures ranging from lows of 23 to 25°C to highs of 30 to 32°C. Waves will reach 1 to 2 metres, and more than 2 metres in stormy areas, reported KhaoSod.

 

Bangkok and vicinity will experience a cool morning, with temperatures dropping by 1 to 2°C, ranging from lows of 18 to 20°C to highs of 31 to 33°C.

Also we could use some rain in Chiang Rai.  The last rain we had was back on 15=December.

Układ o wysokim ciśnieniu utrzymuje się nad górną Tajką i Morzem Południowochińskim, powodując chłodniejsze temperatury w północnych, północno-wschodnich i centralnych obszarach Tajlandii. Regiony te doświadczą zimna do bardzo zimnej pogody, szczególnie na obszarach górskich, gdzie spodziewany jest mróz. Tymczasem regiony wschodni i górne południe, w tym Bangkok i jego okolice, zobaczą chłodne poranki. Zaleca się, aby mieszkańcy ubierali się ciepło i byli ostrożni z powodu potencjalnych zagrożeń pożarowych z powodu suchych warunków.

Monsun północno-wschodni nad dolną Zatoką Tajlandzką i południowym regionem pozostaje silny, co prowadzi do ulewnego deszczu w częściach dolnego południa. Niższy odcinek Zatoki Tajlandzkiej doświadczy silnych wiatrów z falami sięgającymi 2 do 3 metrów, przekraczając 3 metry w obszarach burzowych. Górna Zatoka Tajlandzka i Morze Andamanu zobaczą fale około 2 metrów, z wyższymi falami podczas sztormów. Mieszkańcy wschodniego regionu południowego powinni być czujni na ulewne deszcze i fale przybrzeżne. Marynarze są zachęcani do uważnej nawigacji i unikania żeglowania w burzliwych warunkach. Małe łodzie w niższej Zatoce Perskiej powinny pozostać na lądzie do dziś, 18 stycznia.

 

Prąd obecne warunki pogodowe mogą zwiększyć akumulację pyłu z powodu umiarkowanej cyrkulacji powietrza i osłabienia wiatrów na niektórych obszarach górnej Tajlandii.

Region północny będzie zimny z poranną mgłą, z temperaturami spadkiem o 1 do 2 st. C, a minima od 10 do 17 stopni Celsjusza i wysokości od 26 do 31 stopni. Góry górskie będą bardzo zimne z mrozem w niektórych obszarach, z dobem od 2 do 8 stopni Celsjusza.

Region północno-wschodni będzie odczuwać zimną pogodę, z temperaturami zmniejszającymi się o 1 do 2 stopni Celsjusza, a minima od 9 do 16 stopni Celsjusza i wysokości od 26 do 30 stopni Celsjusza. Górskie szczyty będą bardzo zimne, z dolotami od 6 do 12 stopni Celsjusza.

Centralny region będzie miał chłodny do zimnego poranka, z temperaturami spadkiem o 1 do 2 stopni Celsjusza, a minima od 15 do 19oC i wysokościami od 30 do 32oC.

 

Wschodni region będzie miał chłodny poranek, z temperaturami spadnymi o 1 do 2 stopni Celsjusza, a minima od 17 do 22oC i wysokości od 31 do 33 stopni Celsjusza. Fale osiągną 1 do 2 metrów, osiągając 2 metry od brzegu.

 

Południowy region (brzeża wschodni) będzie chłodny na wyższych obszarach, z temperaturami spadającymi o 1 do 2 stopni Celsjusza i burzami w 30% obszarach i ulewnymi deszczami w Pattani, Yala i Narathiwat. Temperatura waha się od najniższych od 18 do 24oC do wysokości od 29 do 31oC. Wiatry będą poruszać się z prędkością od 20 do 35 kilometrów na godzinę (km/h), fale sięgające około 2 metrów, przekraczające 2 metry w obszarach burzowych.

 

W południowym regionie (zachodnie wybrzeże) będą piorunami na 20% obszarów, głównie w Trang i Satun, z temperaturami od niskich od 23 do 25oC do wysokości od 30 do 32oC. Fale osiągają od 1 do 2 metrów i ponad 2 metry w burzliwych obszarach, poinformował KhaoSod.

 

Bangkok i okolice doświadczą chłodnego poranka, a temperatury spadną o 1 do 2 stopni Celsjusza, od najniższych od 18 do 20 stopni Celsjusza do wysokich od 31 do 33 stopni Celsjusza.

Can't blame the cold spell on the low temperature alone. I say it's the wind.

 

As for rain; none for 110 days, in my area.

 

 

Plenty rain here, Hat Yai's already had 150mm so far this month; the expected rainfall for the whole of January is 50mm. But at least it's cleaning up the dirty air that's been coming down from the north.

Other than long term climate change, I wouldn’t put too much store in humans having any sort of day-to-day impact on the weather at large. We’re probably still 1-200 years away from being Class I status and having that sort of power. This is all just regional monsoon norms. It’s been a bit cooler, but may as well keep this thread open because it’ll be the same next year. 

I'm sure they will blame the cold weather on global heating

It will be at least April, end of, before you will get any major rain, you are like us, cental plains, with the cool weather lasting a long time this year, the Eastly wind is just drying everything up, our grass field has more cracks in it than on top of my old gran's fruit cake,all the gras has dried up, and it is not yet even the start of the hot season.  

If this cold weather will please persist until the End of May, then I can save about....

Still, although the hot season is preferable to me, and something which cannot be entirely avoided, cool weather is good for working outdoors.

 

We have experienced warmer weather during the past decade.

And, near-record-breaking  low temperatures in Northern Thailand are already just a thing of the past, a distant memory already, so to speak.

 

Time to donate heavier winter clothing, cluttering up the closet, if one has not already done so.

Such charity is often seen here in Thailand as just one more instance of Making Merit.

 

Yeah the temperature dropped tomorrow where I live to 44 Degrees  

I think there's misreportage in play here, after many pints down the pub last night, I was told the waves wouldn't be 2-3 meters but more than 500 meters and hundreds of them too. He said that's good thing becuase last time they were over 10,00 meters high or so it looked from his apartment, just 30kms from the river in the one small and broken window he has. It could be true.

No rain up here in Isaan for the last 111 days. Last year it was 119 days before the drought broke.
