Tops Online Debit Card Payment Problems…

Featured Replies

Has anyone experienced any recent issues using an overseas debit card to pay for a delivery order on Tops Online?

I’ve been using my Wise debit card to place orders on Tops Online for a couple of years without any problems. Suddenly, this week, my payments won’t go through. At first, I kept getting an error message on the Tops Online website saying the transaction failed and asking me to try placing the order again. I attempted that multiple times, but always the same failed result.

Then the process changed slightly. Now it seems like the checkout might work at first and eventually I am prompted to go to the Wise app on my phone to approve the charge, which is a good sign. Then I did that, but the transactions still failed, but now with no error message. It simply takes me back to my shopping cart.

Usually, if an online payment fails with Wise, I’ll see a notification in the Wise app stating that the payment was declined or failed for a specific reason. However, in this case, no record of the failed transactions even appear in the Wise app. So it’s very unusual and as if Tops doesn’t even try to charge my debit card in the end.

Eventually, I gave up and used a local bank debit card instead, and it worked without any issues. My Wise debit card is a Visa, while the local debit card is a Mastercard, though I doubt that’s the reason.

Has anyone else encountered anything similar with Tops recently using overseas debit or credit card with Tops?
