Thailand’s Destination Visa loophole that could cost you

The DTV is effectively a five-year tourist visa...

-------------------------------------------------------------

Just like Retirement O(12months' validity, no need of 3 monthly border trip) is the technically One Year tourist visa.

Always a laugh when you hear about different Immigration offices having their own sets of rules and procedures, different from every other office.

That is the one thing that has always baffled me about Thailand - and it applies in other matters.  How can you have a set of rules that can be varied at will?  The same goes for embassies - they each have different requirements for visa applications.

Are the Non-O and DTV both in the same passport?

No,

What I did is I have a retirement extension based on Non -O plus multi entry.

I have a Cambodian Visa as well.

I applied online for the DTV. It took three weeks and was granted in an E-visa via email.

That kicks in when I decide to use it.

So the DTV is granted and dormant until I utilize it.

They don't put a Visa for DTV in your passport.

You get an e visa through email, when the immigration looks at your printed out A4, which also contains your photo, you get a six-month stamp.

After, I think you are in the computer as a 5 year DTV, but additional back up is to carry a printout for airports and borders of your 5 year E visa from the MFA

So for my understanding you will now be spending less than 180 days in Thailand total for a calendar year?

No,

Read the thread, I am not going over it all again.

That question is asked and answered.

Not or try not to be a rude man,

But guys,

You've got to read my polite answers to other posters.

Another one, asking if I am only spending 180 days in Thailand. So, this for the last time is a DTV thread.

Jaysus, I've explained multiple times. Not a tax thread.

But if you do a border run on Day 179, "leaving" Thailand and then re-entering an hour (or less) later - does that count as not being "tax resident" ?

It would look a little off if you "left" the country on 1 Feb and "entered" the country on 1 Feb and then claimed you are not "tax resident" because you were only in the country for 179 days.

(Maybe why Canada uses 183 days to determine if someone is "deemed resident for tax purposes" ?)

Not so.

Canada uses a 183 days residency to determine if a Canadian, paying still income taxes, is eligible or not for free health care.

except if you leave the country a  few times  a year you cant............which is a  fairly recent change

Would I be correct in saying that if you leave and re-enter, the first 90 day report must be done in person every time?

It just isn't a big deal to do a border hop every six months, it's actually a pleasure for me.

Do you mean you take a little holiday? or are you talking a border run there and back in the same day? cuz i don't see how anyone can think a  same day border run is a pleasure

Totally agree. it should be the same across the board. its madness they all have their own set of rules.  i thought that was the point of rules that everyone is supposed to follow them.  what's the point of having rules then. cuz the bottom line is the majority of them are not following them

Stay a week in Vietnam or Cambodia.
