snoop1130 Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago File photo for reference only Phuket's job market is booming, with an impressive 99.15% employment rate among its registered residents. This figure was highlighted at a recent meeting chaired by Deputy Governor Ronnarong Thipsiri at the Phuket Skill Development Institute 21, where they discussed labour strategies for 2025. According to the National Statistics Office, Phuket hosts a population of 619,978, with 500,422 individuals of working age (15 and older), representing 80.73% of the residents. Of this, 355,350 are in the labour force, with 352,288 employed, leaving only 3,062 individuals currently unemployed. Even with such high employment rates, businesses are actively seeking more workers. Between late September and late December 2024, employers advertised 1,335 roles across various fields, but 876 spots remained vacant as of January 23. The most sought-after positions include store sales staff, food and beverage service workers, customer service personnel, building cleaners, and general labourers. To address workforce shortages, the local government has rolled out training programmes based on 12 key economic and social principles, particularly in tourism, health tourism, food processing, and digital industries. For instance, health tourism has attracted 345 trainees, while digital industries boast 635 participants. The Phuket Skill Development Institute 21 is also spearheading a workforce training initiative worth 3.466 million baht, aiming to train 800 people. So far, 110 individuals have completed five of the planned 40 classes. Officials also reviewed the upcoming Independent Labour Promotion and Protection Act, set to begin in 2025. The act focuses on providing better protection for freelance workers, ensuring fair wages, and enhancing social security benefits. By closely monitoring the labour market and implementing strategic workforce initiatives, officials are optimistic about strengthening Phuket’s economy, boosting competitiveness, and improving residents' quality of life. -- 2025-01-30
