Elon Musk: The Rise of Electric Cars is Unstoppable, Despite Trump

The charge time is the problem. Even 15 minutes is too much for me.

As more and more people buy them there will be queues at the stations as well.  With gas cars 3 of them in a queue is 5 minutes not 45.

Plus they are soulless. Like driving a dodgem. An app that played v8 sounds through the speakers might help.

Not too keen on having such a fire risk in my garage either. Even my E mountain bike battery makes me nervous.

Ok for local use but not for long trips.

I'm happy for others to buy though. Should keep the price of fuel low.

Agree--the charge time is the problem--I am super impatient and 15 minutes would be too much for me, too.   I am also too lazy to look for charge places in the first place--and the ones I do notice seem to always have cars already plugged-in--so you are waiting even before you plug the car in--then, for more waiting while it charges.  No thanks.

Spouse and I have had a new plug-in hybrid for a couple months now and we are liking it a lot.  For now, we think it's a great compromise between gas and all-electric.  Around town, we never use gas.  We have an EV charger at home, plug it in in the evening, and it's ready to go for our next day's driving.

The first time we used gas was on a recent trip to Bangkok.  Our condo there does not have any EV charging stations but, no problem--we just used gas when we were in Bangkok and to get us back to Pattaya.  No worrying about finding a place to charge an EV in Bangkok's awful traffic.  We're saving some money on what we were spending monthly for gas so that's a nice benefit, too.

Yeah plug in hybrids are a good solution for people who do a short commute and have their own house.

Unfortunately many people working in bangkok live in condos where there might be 10 charging stations for hundreds of rooms.

These people commute hours every day the last thing they need is an hour or more to charge their car. Just another hour of their lives lost.

Ok for retired expats in the middle of nowhere with solar panels on their roof. But they are the 1% of the 1%.

A full EV would actually suit me quite well on my farm but it sometimes floods and I just don't like them in terms of the driving experience.

Nah, we usually head south, and natural gas from Myanmar is used mostly.  A lot of the electric in North comes from Laos.

Not the I care about CO2 at all, as quite the farce.  But a discussing for another thread.  And it's not my fault the Thai govt is a bit behind, on their energy source, though it does seem to be work in progress, with developing alternative.  At least they are trying, and not longer let big oil control them, like in the past.

Solar & BEV being quite affordable here, vs a so called developed country like USA.

I'm not part of the hypocrite crowd that cry about CO2 & MMGW, but do nothing to help.   I think the planet's health is fine, and will simply absorb humans as crap fertilizer, once we do ourselves in.

Could do with a little less trash in the seas, at least while I'm still alive.  And that ground level air pollution from all the ICEV.  Those 2 are easily solvable, if people actually cared as much as I do.

Saving money is my main motivation for BEV & Solar, but it's nice to know it does help a wee bit, relieving local pollution.

Mae Moh supplies 50% of the electricity to the North, 30% to the central area, and 20% to the north-east.

You have microplastics all through your body. We all do. Plastics have been found at the bottom of the Marianas Trench.

Again , you are kidding yourself if you think natural gas is a cleaner fossil fuel than oil or coal. It comes out of the ground with up to 30% carbon dioxide, which is separated by absorption on amines or via membrane technology. Guess where most of that goes?

What's farcical is people without any education in physics, chemistry or thermodynamics who claim anthropogenic emissions of CO2 are not an issue.

If you want to begin virtue signalling, start by growing your own food . No pesticides or fertilizers, they are oil-derived. Eat what you harvest with your fingers, off banana leaves. No soap to wash your hands, I know how much energy it takes to make that stuff.

If you get sick, you'll have to settle for herbals in place of modern drugs, most of which are fossil-fuel derived.

Go on, show us how much you really care.

We do grow quite a bit now.  Much to my neighbor's delight, as gave them a bunch of Kale last night, and green/spring onions the other day.  Produce way more than we can eat.

They ain't getting any figs though ... mine mine mine.  Don't think we can drink enough lemon water, so they be getting them soon.   Everyone should have spinach, as grows wild here.

Squash, asparagus, lettuce & tomatoes are growing good.  Not sure what else she has out there.  More fruits, but not producing till later this year.

Actually have two more lots, we're thinking about using (1/2 rai), which I might add water tanks & solar to, for us, and the folks farming the 2 or 3 lots across from ours.   Since they don't have water or electric.  We already put one house on our water line, and don't think we can add another, as might affect the pressure.

Though we use rain water a lot, and don't have enough tanks yet to utilize all that comes off the roof.  So that will change this year.  100m² of roof produces 100k liters here/PKK, and we have ~130m² of roof.   Need more tanks, but nowhere to put them on the 2 lots we're using now.  I think we have only 9 water tanks now.

I don't virtue signal, I just do for us, and saving money, and eating healthier is always a good thing.  If neighbors benefit, and throw some fruits & veggies our way, when they have extra, then what I a beautiful world we can have.

Debating on chickens for eggs, but seem more hassle than worth it.  Eggs are still quite cheap, and full of protein in TH, with nice dark yolks.

Next think you know, I'll be getting some fishing gear :cheesy:

Wife just went out to the garden / Greenhouse for something else.  This is this mornings haul ...

On Topic ... as always of course ...

Elon Musk other business aside from Tesla, and taking the USA by storm ...

Energy Storage with huge battery farms, and more to come.  Along with Tesla Wall thingys for home & business.

Good for you. I guess I am too lazy to farm full-time, and would prefer driving a tractor anyway.

Battery storage is currently the bottle neck for renewable energy, although there's a Tesla battery in South Australia which is among the world's biggest. SA is 70% renewable electricity supply, aim 100% by 2028.

Veggies look very healthy.
