Baltic power lines to be cut from russia

 

Nearly 3 1/2 decades after leaving the Soviet Union, the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania this weekend will flip a switch to end electricity-grid connections to neighboring Russia and Belarus

This will effectively cut kaliningrad off from power, which should be interesting. 

 

I have been there a few times; it is very much a region of two halves. There are the pre war areas of gently decaying former splendour to be found in many old Germanic towns, and there is the post was urban hell of Soviet concrete brutalism. 

 

Just crossing the road from one side to the other, the air seems to change.
