Travellers were swiftly transferred to an alternative aircraft. The replacement flight, TG401D, successfully departed Bangkok today, February 17, at 9am

14 hours, that’s what they consider swiftly 🤔

If it was that much of a problem then surely for safety they should have landed at Singapore.

They had a technical problem but decided to fly over an hour back to bkk with it rather than land 🙄

Would have been good to hear the excuse had that technical problem downed the aircraft on its way back to bkk.

MONEY!

The cockpit-window panes of an aircraft consist of three layers polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), a plastic made of polymers, better known among trade names such as plexiglass, acrylglass, often be coated with normal glass. Occasionally, a urethane layer is attached between the acrylic and the glass. If cracks occur, they do not affect the entire glass thickness, but usually only one of the layers. Even with such a crack that can occur, for example, after a bird strike, the disc remains safe. So a return flight was certainly not necessary.

However, a repair at home airport is faster and, above all, cheaper.

I wonder if the calculation would be different if they had to compensate the passengers for the 11 hours of their life that they lost?

I don't know about compensation in Thailand, or Southeast Asia. Certainly not in the financial amount, as European law prescribes for all flights within, from or to Europe.

Yep, it looks like Thai Airways might be getting some swish new aircraft, but that same old Thai disregard for the paying passengers is still deeply entrenched.

Yesterday British Airways turned a flight around back to Heathow after three and a half hours when it could have landed safely.

That is not quite true, not "all flights" into Europe are covered.

You are right, my fault, sorry!

Flights within the EU operated by an air carrier from the EU or a non-EU country
Flights from a non-EU country to the EU operated by an airline from the EU
Flights from the EU to a non-EU country operated by an airline from the EU or a non-EU country

Typical moronic anti-Thai AN reply.

How much do you think it cost them in fuel to fly all the way back? How much do you think it cost them to reorganise all those people at the airport, give them food and drink, and then how much money to organise another plane to take them all to Singapore a few hours later?

Idiotic.

It wasn't an emergency situation, so it is pretty standard to return to your home airport where things can be taken care of more easily as you have maintenance workers, an inventory of parts for your specific aircraft - especially as their home airport was less than two hours away.

But yeah, money. I guess you are one of those who just spouts "money", "greed", or "money number one" randomly in threads without engaging your brain.
