I have a non-immigrant type "O" and my son a non-immigrant type "ED" which we applied 11 months ago at the Thai Consulate in Denpasar Bali.

I was granted the Type "O" visa bacause I own a condo in Thailand - The Thai Consul in Denpasar required me to produce a copy of the title to my condo with my name on it.

As for my son, we had to show a letter from his school here in Thailand verifying that he will be attending school.

Both visas will expire end of this month. We do not want to fly to Bali as it is too far. We're wondering if we can apply both type of visas in either Phnom Phen or Penang.

So our questions are:

1. Phnom Phen or Penang? Why?

2. How long does it take to get the visas - as we do not want to stay longer than necessary (My son's school starts on the 26th of August).

3. Any Hotel suggestions?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Phnom Phen is a non-starter. The Thai embassy there is one of the least visa-friendly consular offices in the region if not the least visa-friendly consular office.

OK, forget Phnom Phen... just read more info about how bad the Phnom Phen consulate can be :-( - Will go to Penang instead.

Will fly Air Asia departing BKK on the 20th of August.... now:

1. Where should we stay?

2. How far the above hotel is from the consulate?

3. Thai Consulate address in Penang?

4. How long does it take to get the visa ready? This is important as we would like to purchase two Air Asia Round trip tickets... If you ever fly Air Asia, you know that it is next to impossible to change your itenerary (50 Malaysian Ringgit charge for any changes).

Thanks

Before you go booking flights, I'd wait for somebody to weigh in with whether you have a chance of being granted a non-immigrant 'O' visa in Penang solely on the basis of your owning a condo in Thailand.

Your son can obtain 1-yr Visa from Thai Immigration office and you can get Guardian Visa. All you needs is

1.Confirmation letter from the school as your son attend, one for him and one for you.

2. copy of The School license

3. Copy of License of the Thai Principal

4. Copy of License of School Manager

all page sign by School Manager or the Thai Principal

and Copy of the pupil passport with page Non-Immigrant and whitecard page.

fee 1,900 baht

For Parent:

additional,

1. A Copy of the Statement from the last 3 months (local Bank)

2. A Copy of the Bank Book

3. A Letter from the Bank confirming that the required amount is in the parent's account.

And you will need to notify your place at the local immigration every 90 days instead of go out of Country.

And most importantly:

(5) In the case of the father or the

mother, the father and the

mother must have a bank

account in Thailand and in their

name showing the balance of no

less than 500,000 Baht during

the last 3 month.
