In a shocking incident last Saturday, a Myanmar national has been apprehended in Phuket for the attempted rape of a 57-year-old woman. The attack, which took place in the Wichit area, was thwarted by the timely arrival of the victim's son.

The distressing events unfolded around 1pm on 15 February when the victim, known as Kai, was attacked in her home. The perpetrator, identified as Soe Aung, allegedly forced his way in, restrained her, and began undressing her.

According to the police, Soe Aung, a migrant worker in the area, had been drinking near the victim's home before spotting the opportunity to assault. Seizing the moment, he intruded into Kai's house and carried out the attack.

Fortunately, Kai’s son, Phonlawat, had sensed that something was amiss. His instinct led him to rush back home, where he encountered the suspect exiting hurriedly, shirtless and breathless. This unusual scene immediately raised his alarm.

Initially too shaken to speak, Kai later mustered the strength to report the incident to Wichit Police Station at 8.43pm. Following the report, she was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital. Medical professionals there confirmed injuries aligning with those of an attempted assault.

Reacting to the gravity of the situation, Wichit Police Chief Police Colonel Chatree Chueakaew launched a swift investigation. A pursuit team under Pol. Lt. Col. Atthawat Suwannarat and Pol. Lt. Col. Anurak Klangnarong was promptly dispatched to locate Soe Aung.

The suspect was quickly apprehended and underwent a urine test, which revealed drug use. During interrogation, he confessed to the attempted assault, attributing his actions to intoxication at the time of the crime, as reported by The Thaiger.

Wow.. So desperate for sex that this man feels the need to rape a 57 year old woman... Pathetic when so many younger women would havev allowed him to sex her for a little monetary payment. I do not think I will ever understand the logic here in Thailand for the need to rape someone, anyone when it is offered for a small payment so easily. Especially to rape an old lady whi is most likely all dried up already.
