Two workers lost their lives, and another narrowly escaped, after a trench collapsed during drainage pipe installation work in Pak Thong Chai, Nakhon Ratchasima.

The incident occurred at approximately 18:30 on 26 February, when officers from Pak Thong Chai Police Station received a report of the collapse at Ban Hua Na, Khok Thai subdistrict. Police and emergency rescue teams from Hook 31 were dispatched to the scene.

The collapse took place on a public road near the Ban Du-Ban Hua Na junction. Rescue workers, assisted by an excavator, attempted to clear the soil covering the trapped workers. However, two men, identified as Kamol, 58, and Chawalit, 70, were found buried under the soil and had died from asphyxiation. A third worker, Prakit, 62, was extracted and transported to hospital for treatment.

Investigations revealed that the work was being carried out to install drainage pipes. The three workers, all local residents, had been hired to help carry out the work, with an excavator also brought to dig the trench. While the workers were inside the trench joining the pipes, the soil on the edge of the excavation gave way, burying them.

Authorities are continuing their investigation and will proceed with legal action as necessary.
