Bus, train fares to be reduced by 50 per cent from Aug 17 to 20

BANGKOK: -- The Transport Ministry will reduce the fares of buses and trains by 50 per cent from August 17 to 20 to encourage voters to take part in the national referendum on the draft constitution.

Chaiyasawat Kittipornpaibool, permanent secretary for Transport, said the government-owned Transport Company and State Raiway Authority of Thailand would reduce the fares for buses and trains respectively by 50 per cent during the period.

He said the shuttle boat services of private companies also agreed to reduce parts of their fares.

He said the subway would also provide free rides from 7 am to 5 pm on the referendum day on August 19.

They should have made ALL buses & trains FREE of CHARGE during that period and extended the time to 21st or 22nd as well.

That would have been smart; you don't lure people with a 50% discount....FREE is the word.
