In a comprehensive crackdown this week, authorities in Phuket have arrested 35 individuals, highlighting the persistent drug issue plaguing the region. On Wednesday, 5th March, Phuket police set up strategic night-time checkpoints in Tambon Thepkrasattri, leading to arrests that included 20 Thai locals and 15 Myanmar migrant workers caught with drugs in their systems.

The operation was spearheaded by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, with Vice Governors Adul Chuthong and Ronnarong Thipsiri, along with Thalang District Chief Siwat Rawangkun, taking key roles. Local security forces, together with village headmen, effectively positioned checkpoints at critical locations such as Pak Krong Cheep School Intersection and Thalang Hospital.

This crackdown is part of the newly launched 'White Organisation' project, inaugurated by Thalang District Chief Siwat on the same day. The campaign, managed by the Thalang District Public Health Office and Security Division, seeks to curb drug use within administrative sectors. It requires administrative personnel, including tambon chiefs and police officers, to undergo voluntary drug tests, demonstrating accountability and promoting public trust.

The detained individuals are now being documented at the Thalang District Drug Prevention and Suppression Centre, with pathways into rehabilitation to aid their recovery. In particular, investigations are focusing on the foreign workers' employment links to enhance efforts in combatting the area’s drug challenges.

Under the 'Sweep Your Own House' strategy, authorities aim not only to execute immediate actions but also to implement lasting solutions with the aim of fostering transparency and bolstering confidence in the community’s drug prevention measures, reported The Thaiger.

Thaksin's last war on drugs led to officially 2873 deaths including whole families and children. Unofficially, the numbers was more like 5,500.

Duturtes numbers of deaths in his war on drugs make Thaksin's war look like a  school yard fight.

Maybe much safer to educate and decriminalise or legalise drugs.

I know some Filipinos who have very strong positive views on the Duterte era, and how under Marcos drugs & corruption have made a very strong come back.  One has a cousin who was a drug dealer.  He got picked up by the Duterte police one night, told to never deal drugs again or face certain death within the next 3 days.  He did the smart thing and immediately quit.  He's still alive.  Find and kill all the dealers using these people who are tested-positive as a route to them.  Don't care if they are Thai or foreigner.
