Dark chocolate

Featured Replies

Used to buy Lindt dark chocolate around 80% cocoa. However, the price has risen about 70% in just a few years.

Now it's 219 baht for a 100g bar.

What's your go to dark chocolate? đŸĢ

  • Some years ago I planted a number of cocoa trees. Most for fun, why not when I'm in a tropical climate suitable for cocoa. They grow were well and are now producing fruits. So next step was to read up

  • @scubascuba3 A little bit relative, as I'll take a little fat over sugar any day.   Cacao & coconut oil have their positives, while sugar has none.

Cocoa shortages are the reason for the increason. War and fungus are the cause. The cheaper  options  skimp on cocoa. I stick with Lindt because everything else is crap, especially Hershey's and Mars

Not to hijack your thread, but I had been sort of reading about Dubai Chocolate for a few months now and was in 7-11 buying a chocolate bar and noticed that along with the other candy bars they were selling something labeled as Dubai Chocolate that was about the same size as a normal candy bar for 95 baht.  I had to wonder who their market was.

Anyway, back to dark chocolate.  I still buy the Lindt because it is readily available.  Never paid that much attention to the price, but I will now.

researchers recommend at least 70%dark chocolate for the health benefit (growing stem cells.  But, other reseach indicates high levels of heavy metals, the more dark chocolate the more heavy metals.   //https://www.forbes.com/sites/brucelee/2022/12/16/23-of-28-dark-chocolate-bars-tested-have-high-lead-cadium-levels/  Article mentions some brand names bette with less metals and if one googles "dark chocolate and heavy metals" then one can see other websites doing the testing and their results and other brands of dark chocolate.  I usuall just get whatever brand is available at Tops or Villamart.  Goes along with the plastic we are ingesting with bottled water.  Sorta like finding out all the poisonous and dangerous foods our food industry has made for us.    Best of health and enjoy!

Homemade ... recipe calls for

... 1/3 c 100% cacao powder

... 1/3 c Coconut Oil

... 1/3 c Sugar (I use < 1 Tbsp honey)

Tasty stuff, and less sugar than store bought.

Go easy, as high saturated fat & caloric count, if concerned about weight.

Cheapest I've found was on Lazada 125 baht for 90 grams, 100%

Be careful with Lazada the sellers have a habit of not fulfilling the order.

These two did:-

I buy Lindt 85%.  Don't ask me what I pay for it, though.  Little bars at the TOPs store.  I just pay whatever it costs.  Next time I go, I'll look.   I don't eat too much, in any event.  Maybe a couple of squares a day.

Me too.....that wasn't my point.

It was the frustration of not getting a bargain/great product that has been advertised.

OK, for me life's to short to worry about it, and as far as I can remember I've only had one order not fulfilled and that was for Ford motor oil years ago.

I am not worried, I was just flagging for those people who might be bothered about such activities.

You want to know the reason for the increase? Just have a look on the chart for Cacao.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, it is not going to decrease very soon.

People think dark chocolate is healthy because its lower sugar than milk chocolate but it's high fat so not healthy really

Research by Dr. William Li, Harvard heart specialist, food researcher writer of two books on diet to heal one's health - says that at least 70%+ dark chocolate helps he human body to produce more stem cells which are needed to heal any cell problems.

It's ok unless trying to lose weight, don't forget a feel good factor of sugar with dopamine, life is sweeter with sugar

recommended per day, one of the small squares of the dark chocolate bar so forget number of squares 8 or 10 about 1 square inch only per day.

just about any food if you eat too much of it can cause fat body.  for dark chocolate recommended 1 square inch per day no more of the chocolate bar.

I get most of my chocolate fix with my, almost daily Kefir smoothie.   Though more like yoghurt dessert.  Wee bit of honey & Creatine ... damn healthy.

Chocolate (100% cacao) & Milk Kefir being quite nutritious.

100% cacao powder offers numerous health benefits, including being a rich source of antioxidants, fiber, and minerals, potentially supporting heart health, mood, and gut health, while also being a good source of iron and magnesium.

This week my wife bought me a 70g bar of dark Dubai style chocolate with Pistachio (probably from 7/11).

When I opened the box it looked as though the chocolate had melted so I popped it into the fridge. Whilst it solidified the chocolate, I had to use a sharp knife to cut it into 4 parts and I ate 1 per day.

That was the first chocolate I have had in years.

Is it better to keep it in the fridge or the freezer?

If yer puts it in the freezer, a square lasts longer in yer mouth.

Best value is Ritter Sport 81% chocolate. No sugar, high quality and only 139 baht for a 100g bar.

Many times, they have sales at Big C, Lotus and Top's. Price went up from 75 baht to 95 baht to the now 139 baht.

I now buy 100% Organic cacao nibs. Much healthier than 85% or 90% dark chocolate. No sugar.

Doesn't really give you the chocolate taste you crave but gives better health benefits.

I usually eat the nibs and later a very small piece of the Ritter just to get that chocolate taste.

I buy the nibs on Lazada or Shopee.
