In a troubling event this morning, nine police officers protecting teachers in Mae Lan district, Pattani province, were injured by a roadside bomb blast. The explosion occurred shortly before 9am between villages Moo 1 and Moo 2 in tambon Muang Tia, as confirmed by Pol Capt Nathee Meesuksri of the Mae Lan station. Quick to respond, police discovered that all officers sustained injuries, with Pol Cpl Sahasawat Phonsang suffering a particularly serious eye injury and being transferred to Pattani Hospital for further treatment.

The attack is believed to be linked to ongoing violence in Thailand's southern regions. This incident follows a similar attack on 8th March in Narathiwat province, where bombs and gunfire orchestrated by suspected insurgents resulted in two fatalities and numerous injuries. Since 2004, ongoing unrest in the area has accounted for 22,962 security incidents, with a staggering loss of 7,683 lives and 14,415 injuries, as reported by Deep South Watch.

Today's blast has intensified security concerns, prompting a thorough investigation into the incident as authorities aim to establish stronger safety measures and prevent further escalations, reported Bangkok Post.

No peace plans yet. It's been decades. Beyond PM Yingluck's peace talks does the Thai government care?

"After deadly attacks, activists criticize Thai govt for stalled southern peace talks," Mar. 10, 2025

  • “Now new violence affecting people has begun. Part of this may be due to operational shortcomings, but the government cannot deny responsibility for not showing clear intentions regarding the peace dialogue process,
  • Since Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s government took office last August [2024], there have been no signs of Malaysia-brokered peace talks restarting."

Pretty hard to think about peace talks when the terrorist are still killing people :coffee1:

The only pressure the separatists can apply is through violence. Same as happened in Northern Ireland.

The only solution is to resume talks and give way to certain of the demands, perhaps for a degree of self-government or allying with Malaysia, again as happened with Blair’s government.

The undoubted assets and potential of the three Southern provinces are being wasted with this endless cycle of violence.

They are not separatist, the are murderous terrorist.  Their demands are wanting the 4 lower provinces.  Never going to happen.  Live in peace with everyone else living there, continue like it is.

No need for a peace agreement, if there is peace.   Try to stop killing people, and Thai military will stop killing you.

Ongoing jihad by muslim terrorists, which has killed over 6k innocent Thais would be more accurate

They don't even care if you are Thai Buddhist or Christians, they kill Thai Muslims also.  Terrorist deserve one thing, a bullet in the head IMHO.
