In a troubling incident at Nong Han Hospital in Udon Thani, Thailand, an intoxicated patient suffering from asthma lashed out at three medical workers, citing a deep-rooted fear of dying linked to medical devices. The chaos erupted when 60-year-old Thonglee was admitted to the hospital's ICU at midnight, presenting severe asthma symptoms while intoxicated.

 

Upon his arrival, medical staff responded swiftly, equipping him with necessary devices, including a ventilator and various tubes. However, Thonglee resisted, removing the equipment and attempting to leave his bed. His actions escalated into violence as he kicked and punched the nurses trying to calm him.

 

 

 

In his defence aired on Channel 7, Thonglee expressed his genuine fear, triggered by a neighbour's recent death involving hospital equipment. He claimed he only needed medication, not intensive treatment, and panicked when surrounded by devices.

 

Despite the attack, nurse Ning, aged 26, reported that she and her fellow workers are recovering, albeit with bruises that remind them of the unsettling night. At present, legal actions are postponed, as the hospital plans to address the incident internally. Meanwhile, Thonglee has offered apologies for his actions, acknowledging the fear that drove him to violence but maintaining his critique of the medical response to his condition, reported The Thaiger.
