What are your favourites?

 

Mine are Cafe in Law and Dose Expresso. Both in Udon. Great coffee and snacks.

You get lovely instagramy cafes in Thailand. But the actual state of the coffee is horrific. 

 

Today, twice i had to send back my cup as it came back luke warm. You can never get a hot cup of coffee.

How hot do you want it?

My favourite coffee shops are outside basic ones, often with a garden. Least favourite are inside AC sterile ones, like Amazon, but ok if no other choice

?  3 to 4 cups a day always hot.  And, the quality here is so much better and less expensive then the west.  Dark roast is amazing here. 

Saying the coffee is no good and never hot, is like saying all the women here are fat and ugly.

I want to take my time drinking it, over a conversation. If the first sip is luke warm (which invariably it is in Bangkok) then a few minutes later (with the ac on) it's going to be a cold drink, which is absolutely horrific. 

 

Why doesn't Thailand get it ?

Just now i have come back from my local cafe. I said i wanted it extra hot. He nodded. Then gave it lukewarm. I told him to take back the cup and bring it hot. He took it back, and bought it back luke warm again. I gave up. 

 

Doubt he was bothered. The shop was packed with westerners sitting on their laptops with a bottle of water, using their electricty and wifi.

They don't use thermometers, also when i have a poor coffee it's often because the person making it doesn't drink coffee

I think it's you who doesn't get it.  AC'd premises are intended to be cool, it is not horrific.  Why do you patronise AC'd cafes?

You say that as though, by drinking coffee, you think you are more important then they are...there's no difference, they're all customers using the same electricity and Wi-Fi as you do.

Cafe Knocking Shop....always comes nice and frothy.

it's obvious, if the coffee doesn't taste good vs other shops i.e. beans not good, milk not good, then it's most likely because they don't know what good coffee is like

None of the staff did anything to play fair and move them on after 30 minutes or so. Nope they just sat their for hours. After my lukewarm coffee, i went to a few shops. Came back as i left my umbrella, and the same souls were sitting there.

The business models seem to be flawed in a lot of places.

 

What you need is pretty simple

- coffee that people want ( if people want hot give em hot)

- food or snacks people want

- fair prices

- reasonable atmosphere

That's fairly typical in chain cafes in Thailand.  I see Thais doing this all the time.  Often you see meetings or classes where they buy one drink and sit for hours.  I even often see Thais take up a multiple table with their bags, then half disappear for a while and come back later.
