Atcha highlighted how the 4.29 million baht budget, sourced from the national Road Safety Fund, is designated for public awareness campaigns and safety projects specifically targeting motorcycles. "Our goal is to see real, measurable improvements in accident prevention," Atcha explained, outlining the intended use of funds for awareness campaigns and safety improvement efforts.

The funding will be channelled into various initiatives, including campaigns promoting helmet use, and discouraging dangerous driving habits among young and inexperienced riders. These efforts are particularly crucial during peak traffic times and key festivals like Songkran and New Year, notorious for high accident rates.

How about enforcing existing laws?  Maybe that's what this 4m Baht should go towards?  No issue with the campaigns, but how many will listen.  This is worldwide by the way, not Thai-bashing.

As far as i know, wearing a helmet is compulsory. Do you really need a campaign ?

Maybe on Chalong circle, for the rest of the island, it makes no difference at all.

Phuket is intensifying its efforts to address the island's notorious traffic safety concerns, thanks to a funding injection of over 4 million baht aimed squarely at reducing motorcycle-related accidents. On March 26, a strategic meeting at the Phuket Provincial Transport Office outlined the road safety plan for the fiscal year 2025, chaired by Transport Officer Atcha Buachan.

Key figures at the meeting included Police Colonel Phasakon Santhikun, Deputy Commander of Phuket Provincial Police, Education Officer Panna Phromwichian, and Public Relations Officer Sophon Kiemkarn. The focus of their discussion was clear: to cut down traffic fatalities and accidents, with a particular emphasis on motorcycles, the primary contributors to road deaths in the area.

Atcha highlighted how the 4.29 million baht budget, sourced from the national Road Safety Fund, is designated for public awareness campaigns and safety projects specifically targeting motorcycles. The funding will be channelled into various initiatives, including campaigns promoting helmet use, and discouraging dangerous driving habits among young and inexperienced riders. These efforts are particularly crucial during peak traffic times and key festivals like Songkran and New Year, notorious for high accident rates.

To implement these initiatives, the subcommittee has invited proposals from organisations seeking to contribute to road safety through prevention, education, and mitigation strategies in Phuket's high-risk zones.

Phuket, which has seen high incidents of road accidents involving motorcycles used by both locals and tourists, aims for tangible improvements with this funding. Previous occurrences during major festivals highlight the necessity for consistent safety enforcement and education.

Expectations are high that these focused efforts will not only lower the incident rates but also foster a culture where safety on Phuket's roads is the norm. The funding will support campaigns in schools, community outreach, and collaboration with local media to disseminate safety messages, reinforcing Phuket's commitment to making its roads safer for all, reported The Thaiger.
