The next step:  Trump announces that the billions and trillions of dollars flowing into the treasury will be used to fund tax cuts for the wealthy, with a bone thrown to the poor and middle class.

Is that in addition to the $4+ trillion giveaway already planned?

Gonna hurt US consumers more than anyone.  “plundered and stolen from” lol. He has no clue about economics. The US has benefitted hugely in price and diversity from everyone that sells to them.

  • Oof. Thats gonna hurt for thailand losing the american consumer. Maybe they should drop their tariffs against the US

the US consumer will suffer the most, at least in the short term, USA factories cannot suddenly produce all the product that is imported and on many products is likely still uncompetitive even allowing for the tarrifs

US consumers seem not to believe this as Trump and even mainstream media insist the tariff is on the exporters, quote from Bloomberg below, tariffs are paid by importers who will start to have cash flow and profitability issues paying these tariffs when the goods arrive at US customs.

"US President Donald Trump announced reciprocal tariffs Wednesday, saying he would apply a minimum 10% levy on all exporters to the US."

Donald Trump has announced retaliatory tariffs on countries with which the U.S. has a trade deficit. The new tariffs, starting at 10%, affect a wide range of countries, with Thailand facing a 36% tariff.

On 2nd April 2025, President Trump held a press conference at the White House announcing the implementation of tariffs on nearly all imported goods into the US, beginning at 10%. However, certain countries, including Thailand, will face much harsher tariffs due to significant trade deficits with the US.

Under this new system, tariffs will vary across countries. While the UK, Brazil, and several others begin at 10%, Thailand faces a steep 36% tariff. Other nations are also heavily impacted, with Vietnam at 46% and Cambodia at 49%.

During his announcement in the White House Rose Garden, Trump boldly declared, "The US has been plundered and stolen from by many nations, both ally and adversary." He touted the measure as a liberation for American industry, stating, "This will be remembered as the day American industry was reborn and America’s destiny reclaimed."

Trump underscored this as a beginning of a new golden era for the US economy, also taking the opportunity to criticise previous trade relations with Canada and Mexico, both already subjected to a 25% tariff.

Highlighting his strategy, Trump added, "This tariff is a partial response. We haven’t hit back fully as it would be burdensome for many nations, a step we wish to avoid." Moreover, the tariffs will extend to foreign-manufactured cars imported into the US, enforcing a 25% rate from midnight on 2nd April.

The list is not even in any order, alphabetic or by tariff value, just like Trumps brain... random.

It's pretty simple . Trump wants all the companies who make products that America America to move their operations to the U.S. and employ Americans. He  has also offered to give them a very low tax rate.

And, Thailand is not "Hit with 36% Tax." Tariffs are paid by the country imposing them, so actually, "US Citizens Are Hit with a 36% Tax" for items they import from Thailand.

Easy, just dont tell the government that youre living in thailand

That is illegal.  As a US citizen living overseas and FATCA, one is required through the local Thai bank to also file a IRS form 7 with the FATCA "I am a US cit" and you are required to give your Thailand address as well as to file the yearly FBAR report if you have a foreign bank acct.

Biden’s White House has aggressively fought its trade war with China. The administration has retained all the tariffs that the Trump White House placed on Chinese imports in 2018 and 2019.

On February 24, the Biden Administration issued a Proclamation imposing additional tariffs pursuant to Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 on imports into the United States of aluminum and certain aluminum derivative articles produced in Russia, as well as aluminum articles where any amount of primary aluminum used in the article is smelted or cast in Russia.   (Well, it is russia after all, even though biden let russia finish the gas pipeline that Trump stopped. )

Beware The “Surprise Fees” In Biden’s 200% Aluminum Tariffs  (I am a hobby machinist and use aluminum to make things.   I can vouch for the increase in aluminum costs.)

You're cherry-picking facts and distorting their meaning. Biden didn’t start a trade war—he inherited Trump’s tariffs and has adjusted them strategically.

The Russia aluminum tariff wasn’t about trade policy; it was a sanction on an aggressor waging war in Ukraine.

Beware Radiochaser's misinformation.

Thailand isn't being hit with any tariffs or taxes, US consumers are being hit with tariff/taxes on goods from Thailand, imported into the US.

How many times does this need to be explained to the maga cult members ?

No American has ever told you that. You're just making stuff up.

Just about everything America does is subsidized. Most people with any critical thinking can understand why thats a BAD, BAD thing for us.
Now, we're going to have to pay the price and most are willing to do that. Its going to hurt all of us until it starts to heal. Embrace the SUCK.

America has never and will never go running to the rest of the world for anything, you clearly don't know your history.  Now the rest of the world standing there with their hand out ? Constantly.

If I am making stuff up then it appears I am in the good company of Vance, Trump and Pete  Hogwash then aren't I?

America is already running to Ukraine for its rare earths as it needs them.

When you say 'we're going to have to pay the price and most are willing to do that ... I assume that you are talking exclusively about Americans as the rest of us as we sure as hell didn't agree to anything like that and Amercia can take a long walk off a short pier if they think the rest of the world will comply with Trumps demand to Make America Great Again at their expense.

Beware loslobo's misinformation.  Tariffs are tariffs  regardless of what the reason is.

Tariffs are a form of punishment put on another country for various reasons regardless of why.

As to cherry picking, it was the result of looking on the internet for tariffs put in place by biden.   He even like the tariffs that Trump put in place and kept them.    I just did a quick copy and paste with what I posted.

Some of you on aseannow write as if Trump is the first and only president to place tariffs on other countries.   He isn't and you either don't know that or don't care and use your aseannow pulpit to do character assassination.

biden put other tariffs on other countries products as well, tariffs that Trump had nothing to do with.

I realize that Trump is acting as if he is already a King of the country but Congress can still affect a lot of what he continues to do as almost all of it is illegal according to the constitution and I think that now Congress sees the demonstrations throughout the country and even congress people are waking up to a possible being able to contol some things.  Who knows...not me for sure!
