Four pages of screaming over the fact that we dont want to be ripped off.

Our tariffs too high?  Lower yours. Easy.

I think it has been established now that Trump has not calculated tariffs from other countries, but trade deficit.

The only way to reduce the trade deficit really fast is to make Americans consume less.

I guess his tariffs are doing it, even though I do not imagine that this is really his plan.

But as long as you guys are lapping it up, I am actually fine with the US having a much smaller ecological footprint due to everything coming to a standstill over there. Might just be the best thing that has happened to the world, at least in the long run.

Gonna hurt US consumers more than anyone.  “plundered and stolen from” lol. He has no clue about economics. The US has benefitted hugely in price and diversity from everyone that sells to them.

  • Oof. Thats gonna hurt for thailand losing the american consumer. Maybe they should drop their tariffs against the US

Americans will simply not buy products from Thailand. Thai businesses will be forced to either shut down or move to the US

Thailand "As long as there is rice in the fields, and there are fish in the ponds, everything will be fine"

As far as Americans are concerned, used to a life of grotesque over consumption and privilige, it will be a very different matter:

"The bigger they are, the harder they fall"

Yeah especially as they whine and cry about tariffs. Their position: Only we are allowed to tariff. If we want to Tariff your goods 36%, you need to shut up and pay.

Not any more: the free ride is over.

Looks like we are crashing and burning. The end of the world.

Won't bother smaller Thai E-retailers as the diminis agreement is still in place and goods under 800 bucks are still not taxable. Only China and Hong Kong got hit by that one.

In the chart you have posted, you have the Dow Jones Futures, but Nasdaq and S&P show the closing number of yesterday.

But even though you circled it, you do know that, right?

Then its no problem to go to him and say, Don, here ya go, you won, our tariffs are now X%, please lower yours.

OK.

Lets see who blinks first

You people vastly underestimate the power of american consumerism. Thailand is toast

"power of american consumerism"  -  based on PRICE.  Consumers will disappear when employment collapses.  Smoot-Hawley 2.0  -  original was universally

a Great Success

Yep you're right that's how it closed. Let's see how things look when it opens. Then see what it looks like in the future. My guess is it will go bearish for a while then recover.

I just hope Donald will have a lower tariff tax rate for Thai coffee shop owners - We need more and more of them.

Yay for Brexit , UK got 10% , EU 20%! Maybe it’s time for Starmer to start advertising the UK to companies in the EU to come to the UK…. But then again that would be a pro British move so not gunna happen

We may all be familiar with ‘Whitewashing’ and ‘Greenwashing’ and even ‘Sportswashing’.

New kid on the block is ‘Sanewashing’ … sad people bending over backwards to try and interpret Trump/Musk behaviour as sane.

It isn’t.

Respectively they are bestowed  with power and money but neither of those assets vaccinated them against ‘mad’.

They are both simply mad.

Try buying a Ford Mustang in Thailand.  I believe a 200% import tax.  Trump needs to up the tariff.

So the old saying......'When America sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold', appears to be true??:whistling:

Whinge whinge. If Trump cured cancer still whinge.

He's not cured it yet, but he has a plan (some would say it's brilliant), to use bleach and bright lights!

Not sure where this is going to end up.

I believe Trump was attempting to use Tariffs to get countries to the bargaining table.  Ones that didn't want to work a deal he viewed as acceptable would face tariffs.  The countries viewed it that the outrage from its citizens if they accepted a deal like the US has been accepting from other countries for years.

Everyone will feel some pain. Countries with stronger economies will probably come out better off in the end.  The challenges that Tariffs place on other countries economies will probably be impactful.

I understand Trump wants to work deals that are advantageous for the US and will accept no less than what he views as a fair deal.

If you view someone as having an unfair competitive advantage then you want to level the playing field.

The only certain result of this is hurting the American consumer, and driving Thai exports to other trading partners. Making Americas Gullible Again!

Wow. Quite reasonable for one of these topics.

If the Democrats were seeking to expand out industrial base, what would be their main economic tool I wonder (other than print and spend money that ends up in some unknown hole)

Maybe Thailand will reciprocate by deporting all American expats...care of Aeroflot

Donald Trump has announced retaliatory tariffs on countries with which the U.S. has a trade deficit. The new tariffs, starting at 10%, affect a wide range of countries, with Thailand facing a 36% tariff.

Should've added a zero
