BREAKING NEWS Trump: Iran Missile Attack on U.S. Base in Qatar 'Very Weak' and Calls for Regional Peace
Trump Dismisses Iranian Missile Attack on U.S. Base in Qatar as 'Very Weak' and Calls for Regional Peace In the early hours following a missile barrage launched by Iran at a U.S. military base in Qatar, President Donald Trump downplayed the attack, describing it as a “very weak response” and claiming that the United States had successfully intercepted nearly all incoming missiles. Speaking on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said: “Iran has officially responded to our Obliteration of their Nuclear Facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and have very effectively countered.” According to Trump, Iran launched 14 missiles at U.S. positions in Qatar. Of those, 13 were reportedly intercepted, while one veered off harmlessly in a “nonthreatening direction.” Trump assured the public that no Americans were harmed and that the damage was minimal. He also noted that no Qatari citizens were killed or injured in the assault. “This is the retaliation that was expected,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson, who confirmed he had received a classified intelligence briefing on the situation earlier in the day. His comments suggest that U.S. officials were prepared for such a strike following the American air assault that destroyed Iranian nuclear infrastructure days prior. While tensions have escalated between Washington and Tehran, Trump struck a surprisingly conciliatory tone in his follow-up messages, suggesting that the confrontation might be coming to an end. “Most importantly, they’ve gotten it all out of their ‘system,’ and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE,” he posted. “I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice.” Trump's remarks appear to suggest a willingness to move past the current crisis, advocating for a renewed diplomatic push in the region. “Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same,” he wrote. Moments later, Trump issued two additional messages, doubling down on his message of peace and offering praise for Qatar's diplomatic efforts. “I want to thank the Emir of Qatar for all that he has done in seeking Peace for the Region,” he said. In a final, emphatic message, the U.S. president proclaimed: “CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT’S TIME FOR PEACE!” While the missile attack marked a serious escalation following the U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear program, Trump’s confident tone and emphasis on diplomacy suggested that Washington might not seek further immediate military retaliation. The next steps from Tehran remain to be seen, but for now, American leadership appears eager to declare victory and pivot toward de-escalation. Adapted by ASEAN Now from BBC 2025-06-24 -

Community Dog Rescued from Abandoned Well in Sugarcane Field
Picture courtesy of kaoded. A heartwarming rescue operation unfolded in a sugarcane field in Tha Muang district, Kanchanaburi, after a young dog was discovered trapped at the bottom of a deep, abandoned groundwater well. The incident occurred near Soi 1 behind Wat Krang Thong Ratburana, Moo 5 in Thung Thong subdistrict. Local villagers alerted the Khun Rattanawut Foundation after hearing desperate cries for help coming from the disused well, which was approximately five metres deep. Rescue personnel arrived swiftly and found a male dog, estimated to be about one year old, visibly frightened and weakened after being stuck for an extended period. The team assessed the situation and carefully lowered a rope with a knotted rescue loop to retrieve the animal. Within a short time, the puppy was successfully lifted to safety, much to the relief of onlookers who had gathered to watch and offer support. In a surprising twist, the villager who had reported the incident approached the rescued dog, only to realise it was his own pet, affectionately named “Chao Boon Khum” (translated as “Lucky Protector”), who had gone missing earlier. Overcome with joy, the man embraced his beloved dog, relieved to have him back safe and sound. The Khun Rattanawut Foundation used the opportunity to remind the public about the dangers posed by open or abandoned wells, especially those lacking protective covers. They urged property owners to take precautions to prevent incidents involving pets, wildlife or children. The foundation also encouraged swift reporting of similar incidents to ensure timely and safe rescues. The story of Chao Boon Khum has since resonated with locals, a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and compassion in times of need. Adapted by Asean Now from Kaoded 2025-06-24 -
