Air Purifier or Upgrade Aircon HEPA filter

I have had this bad broncitus/asthma/flu, coughing up toenails for a while now and was thinking of buying an air purifier. Then I thought to my self, self why not check out HEPA filters for my bedroom aircon.

Has anyone done this?

What did you do or buy and what brand particle check meter do you have?

I have used them, don’t remember what brand. The smoke doesn’t really bother me though the smoke bothers my wife and insisted on air purifiers in the house and they do work well, we have a couple Xiaomi’s and are quite inexpensive.

I wouldn’t bother trying to modify or add a filter to an existing AC as you will lower its cooling capacity and may damage it… I am dubious about any new AC claims to being PM 2.5 or “filtration” capable… 

 

I would just get a larger sized basic air purifier with a HEPA filter….

Get a larger size as you do not want to run it on it’s highest fan setting as they are noisy on high… Make sure the filter can be easily sourced as it’s a good idea to replace them regularly…

 

I live in Chiang Mai (15 years)… And I use the Xaiomi AirPurifiers… They are nice as they have a air quality monitor on the front and can be programmed to go on/off via app, and the filters are easily replaced from Lazada… I have on in every room (6 and counting) and two in the main lounge… they run at half speed so I don’t even notice them running…

I think the newest is #4.  Yes, can operate without phone, or without 'MI home app'.  We have 2, older models, (original & #2), and along with the ACs, keep the PM2.5 down to near -0-, if not -0-.

 

That's 106m² of living space.

That is incorrect, you can change the fan speed without app or phone.

Seems to have ionizer too , says the guy in the video , but only with the app.

I have the Xiaomi 4 and am very satisfied with it.

I do not need an app to use it. There is a small black touch screen on the front where you can adjust speed, see temperature and filter percentage.

Just thinking .... my EV aircon has a 2.5 particle filter (I think) and the aircon works well. I think the filter can also be cleaned at the time of service.

So should be available to an inside aircon.

Our home ACs have built in air purifiers.  We also bought 'Heavy Duty Inverter ACs', knowing we abuse them.   Running one almost 24/7, and the other about 10 hrs a day.

 

They do an excellent job keeping the AQI & PM2.5 levels in healthy range.  Along with the Xiaomi AP

 

AQI <10

PM2.5 <5 

 

Yes, newer EVs have air purifiers in them, and ours, 2022 MG ZS, works very good, as tested.

 

You can replace it yourself, to avoid service charge for doing at dealer.  we bought filter online, and swap out the original after service.

 

Strangely, we swapped out, and put in the 'clean' original, but they changed it at 40k, because maintenance schedule recommends changing it.  WTF

 

Apparently they didn't care that it was clean.  Pissed me off when the wife told me.  If I was there, that wouldn't have happened.  It won't happen at 80k kms service.

Make sure you understand the capabilities of the 4 Lite, 4 and the high end Pro model…

I agree with that. The 4 Lite has less options and less capacity and the compact model even less than the Lite.

Ionizers are not that healthy , they produce ozone.

So for short periods ok but not all the time.

The Xaiomi 4 lite version has  a non programmable LED screen, the 4 and 4Pro have a OLED screen with programmable buttons…

 

Using the app is not that complicated and really only needs to be used once to set the fan speed for your favorite mode (all models have a button to toggle between Auto, Night & Favorite mode)… I have all mine set to favorite mode at a ~50% fan speed which keeps them from sounding too loud…

 

The app can be on your phone or a tablet… I have it on my iPad…

 

I especially like the apps ability to set schedules so they go on and off in different rooms… So the bedroom goes on a half an hour before bedtime and goes off in the morning when I’m in the shower… And the main living room goes on and off accordingly…
