Some of you guys need to get out more. You walk around a tiny part of the capital and then speak of ALL Thais. Bizarre. In other news, I was recently walking around the Rommani Park/Giant Swing area and was struck with how happy everyone seemed.  Perhaps I was wrong, some of you ‘learned’ miserable lot would haven seen it differently. But why live in a place if you don’t care for the people and it makes you so unhappy ?

Having spent a lot of time around Thais in all parts of the country and having been to many countries, I’d go along with this. The family and friends thing is a big deal, they don’t get caught up in our manmade religions and they generally don’t get overly serious. But I think a main factor for Thais being generally happy is that they don’t tend to overthink, or get entangled in thought so much. Some donkey will make a quip about that. Whatever.

Nope, I agree with you .......

If you ask a Thai their plans for the future they'll probably start thinking ....... what's for dinner?

I once asked my Thai girlfriend how far she planned in advance, and she got up and looked in the fridge, then said, "no problem, we've got plenty"

Interesting to see Thailand ranked so high! Life here definitely has its charm great food, friendly people, and a laid-back vibe. Stats or not, many of us feel pretty happy living here.

It totally depends on the society you move around with - not "All Thai People" IMHO

Where did I say "all Thai people"?

In this thread we are discussing about "Thailand Ranked 7th Happiest Country in New Global Survey". Hence when I replied to your comment, I did NOT mean to accuse you of anything - what I meant was, we see the 'status' of people, only whom we associate with - but, there are millions who tend to differ. Most times we judge the entire populace with the standard of our associates.

Sorry, for not been clear in my previous post.

Fair enough!

I only know one super rich Thai, he owns a 100Mbht teak house outright, and 1Mbht/month income from his business.

Currently serving 10 years for armed robbery of a gold shop in Lamphun.

His wife just served 5 years for having a warehouse full of fake USD.

My misses has loads of pals that call round, all middle aged single moms, living with parents or renting.

But all happy whenever I see them, they have nothing but their happiness!
