Yes, I agree. So while I only tried it in Nha Trang, if I were going to, say, Ho Chi Minh City, I would try to open an account at the Vietcombank there first - at the main office. I would be very surprised if they didn't open accounts for foreigners there as well.

Don't think anything stopping you.  My first several years in Thailand I obtained 90 ME to Vietnam 4 times per year.  Back then it was approval letter and visa issued on arrival. A PAIN.

While it's not the main reason why I visit Vietnam, I do always make it a point to visit the dentist while I'm there. They do a great job for rather less than what it costs in Thailand.

Pollution is bad in both places but I think it's worse in Bangkok/Pattaya than Da Nang. Drivers license isn't an issue, at least for motorbikes.

 

People definitely a lot skinnier here, makes for a much happier atmosphere. Less bad attitudes towards farangs that's for sure.  Weather wise it's got a much cooler winter here and the rainy season is from Sep-December. Those are the months I don't want to be in Da Nang. 

 

Somebody told me the other day that Vietnam prices are similar to what Thailand was 5-10 years ago I think that's about right.

Especially in the last 5 years, prices in Thailand have risen considerably. I didn't visit Thailand from Jan 2020 to Aug2022,  I was stuck in Vietnam during pandemic. I couldn't believe the prices in Thailand post Covid. Fruit and vegetable prices in particular.

Thanks, this is a really good summary IMHO.  I was only in Da Nang/Hoi A for about a week, so less time than I've spent in Pattaya & Bangkok.  But I got a better vibe from everyone I met these that I've generally had in Thailand.  Early days though!

I've thought about doing the same thing, especially since housing costs are so reasonable in both places. So long as your condos are secure, just have two condos and go back and forth, depending.  It's not that hard to do.  Keep my O extension in Thailand active, and see how it goes in Vietnam.

A friend of mine came back to Thailand and after almost 2 weeks that he is over there he said that locals are more racist and rude. He also saw that Thais don't have good education and they don't have any type of skills. Bolt taxi drivers don't even look at your face when they bring you somewhere. There are so much scammers, especially in pattaya!. He is feeling like there is more racism now and people are crazy about money. He still like Thailand by the way but he is also looking at other options, Vietnam and other south east Asian country

Yeah I think Pattaya/Jomtien grew way too much and when a place gets super crowded tempers flare easily. I was in Pattaya from 2007-2011 it was much nicer, practically a ghost town compared to what it is now. They keep building and building in Jomtien I tell my friends its unsustainable they just can't imagine what it's going to be like in 2-3 years.

Yes, pattaya is a crazy place right now. Full of strange and old fat foreigners. Full of Indians and arrogant russians. Personally I wouldn't travel to pattaya more than a week. 

 

One last thing my friend said, that it is noisy so much and they always build or fix something, everywhere you go

Oh really? can you recommend a dentist office in Da Nang? or did you visit some other city?

      Cyber Police Dismantle Major Online Gambling Syndicate

      Picture courtesy of Matichon. Cybercrime authorities have successfully dismantled a significant online gambling operation known as 3AVIPBET, which was generating over 120 million baht annually. The operation involved a network of individuals across Thailand, including a key suspect apprehended at Suvarnabhumi Airport while attempting to flee to Hong Kong. The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) conducted a series of raids on 23 May, targeting properties in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Bangkok. The operation led to the arrest of five individuals, including a 27-year-old woman from Ang Thong who managed the website’s financial accounts. Authorities seized assets valued at over 7 million baht, including cash, Chinese currency, property titles, and electronic devices. The gambling website had been operational since 2020, with monthly transactions exceeding 10 million baht. The syndicate employed various tactics to evade law enforcement, such as using satellite internet connections and relocating operations to neighbouring countries. Despite these efforts, the government has intensified its crackdown on illegal online activities, leading to a significant decrease in reported cybercrimes. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend remaining members of the syndicate, both domestically and internationally. Citizens are encouraged to report any information related to online gambling activities via the 1441 Cyber Crime Hotline. This operation underscores Thailand’s commitment to combating cybercrime and illegal online gambling, aiming to protect the public from associated risks and ensure a safer digital environment.       Doctors to refuse carrying out mandatory chemical castration’

      Mixed thoughts, and I guess it depends how it's instituted. If voluntary by the pedophile to avoid long prison sentence, then I don't think the doc would have moral standard issue. They really should raise the punishment for pedophiles, to life in prison, no parole. Honest pedophiles are always on record, stating they can't be cured of the urge. Does the chemical castration even work. Would not testosterone treatment simply negate to process. Life in prison ... why take the chance of having them walking among our children.

Additionally, an air conditioning unit on the first floor was damaged from impact, as he fell. According to Mr. Surachai, the 29-year-old owner of the room and a friend of the deceased, Mr. A had returned to the dormitory around 23:00 after handling some academic matters in Bangkok. They had a brief conversation about Mr. A’s desire to return to work, to which Mr. Surachai responded by suggesting he had recently dealt with academic issues. Mr. A then went downstairs but returned shortly after, expressing that he had nowhere else to go. Mr. Surachai heard a noise from the back door and upon checking, found Mr. A had fallen or jumped. The victim’s mother, Mrs. Chanthara, arrived at the scene visibly distraught. She explained that she had been unable to reach her son by phone and was unaware of his whereabouts. She mentioned that they had not argued recently and had communicated via chat earlier that day. She confirmed that her son was not suffering from depression and left home around 22:00. Police Lieutenant Colonel Sawat Khongkaew, the investigating officer, documented the scene and conducted an inspection of the room, finding only a bag of clothing. The authorities have taken Mr. Surachai and the mother for further questioning and have sent the body to Thammasat University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
