The suspect alleged that the victim had sexually assaulted him, triggering the violent response. The incident, which saw the involvement of officers from Pho Chai Police Station, was reported after Anuwat approached the community leader to admit to the crime. Phuwanon’s body was discovered with multiple stab wounds to her chest, back, and neck, along with deep cuts to her forehead and leg. Her motorcycle, personal belongings, 3,456 baht in cash, and the 30-centimetre knife used in the attack were found nearby. Anuwat claimed Phuwanon had tricked him into meeting and then sexually assaulted him, instilling fear that led to the stabbing. However, not all are convinced by this reasoning. Phuwanon’s uncle suggested a financial dispute might be the real motive, citing Phuwanon's recent earnings from online gambling. Adding complexity to the case, Cherry, a friend of Phuwanon's, shared that Phuwanon worked as a make-up artist and had been scheduled to work at a local rocket festival. Cherry noted she had observed Phuwanon video calling Anuwat multiple times, leaving room for speculation about a potential romantic connection. Police carried out a crime scene reenactment with Anuwat before detaining him for further interrogation. While Anuwat's sexual assault claim offers one angle, the possibility of a romantic entanglement is also being considered. The exact charges against Anuwat have not yet been disclosed. The community and authorities are left grappling with the motivations behind this fatal encounter, poised between accusations of assault and underlying financial or personal relations. The investigation continues as law enforcement seeks to unravel the truth behind this distressing case. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-05-30 1 2
