The Thai government has reiterated its commitment to resolving the ongoing border dispute with Cambodia through peaceful and bilateral means. In a statement posted Wednesday morning, the government emphasized the importance of protecting national sovereignty while adhering to peaceful solutions, international law, and humanitarian principles.

This announcement comes in the wake of a recent skirmish between Thai and Cambodian soldiers in the Chong Bok area of Ubon Ratchathani province on May 28. The government clarified that the Thai forces acted in self-defense, aligning with international legal standards.

Following the incident, both governments engaged in high-level discussions, including talks between prime ministers, to de-escalate tension and seek a resolution. They agreed to restore normalcy and apply established bilateral mechanisms, such as the Joint Boundary Committee, which is scheduled to meet in Cambodia on June 14.

Although Cambodia has suggested involving an international court or a third party to mediate the dispute, the Thai government insists on addressing the issue through direct dialogue with Cambodia.

The statement concluded by assuring that the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border is stable and expressed confidence that both nations will reach a mutually agreeable solution. This approach underscores Thailand’s dedication to maintaining peaceful relations with its neighbour while safeguarding its territorial integrity.
