A 20-year-old woman in Saraburi province has been charged with running an illegal money lending operation that preyed on young girls, offering loans with interest rates as high as 300%. The case, highlighted by the Justice Seeker Foundation, has uncovered over 15 victims, aged between 13 and 16, who endured intimidation and threats when unable to repay their debts.

Investigations revealed distressing terms, such as borrowing 1,300 baht (US$40) with a demanded repayment of 4,300 baht (US$130). The suspect, Sirinapa, was apprehended at her residence on the Saraburi and Nakhon Nayok border by Nong Khae Police Station’s team. She faces multiple charges, including illegal money lending, prostitution, physical assault, and violence against minors.

Upon arrest, Sirinapa was silent during initial police questioning. On June 4, Police Lieutenant Colonel Nikatak Haaken escorted her to Saraburi Provincial Court on the money lending charge, with phone records submitted as evidence. Sirinapa admitted to the lending charge but denied the other allegations, which remain under investigation pending further evidence and complaints.

Appearing exhausted during her charge acknowledgement, Sirinapa cited stress and insomnia, expressing no desire to seek bail. Before court transfer, she requested a private conversation with her boyfriend. Notably, her boyfriend and two friends stood by her side, offering visible support as she was taken into custody, showing solidarity despite the serious allegations.

This case underscores the severity of exploitative lending practices and the importance of protective measures for vulnerable youths in Thailand. The ongoing investigation aims to bring full accountability and justice for the victims involved.
